Comments: tortured plant

Interesting shot! Looks as if that gardener has just come in and cut the body out...

i would like to see this shot taken from a kneeling position and level with the remains of the plant as it would be slightly more empathetic that way and up close on the slice effect on those lonely branches that remain.

It looks like the fence is growing faster than the little tree ;-)
(sorry, for my bad english)

lol - the just cut down a bunch of trees that were growing around and into the fences by my work, but they didn't leave any bits behind. very cool capture!

Interesting find. Obviously the plant was well grown into the fence and too hard to cut out so the killer just cut the root, which was clever.

One wonders why? It doesn't look like an offensive burr type plant.

The B&W sure makes it look bleak.

this one is okay. just okay.

Too much work to remove the whole plant I guess?

Have you got a space on flickr?

seriously looks like the fence was trying to overgrow the plant

Posted by Hugh at August 20, 2005 09:16 PM

you now have me scared of wire fences. Yikes!

whoa. definitely hitchcockian. i can almost hear the plant screaming.

Looks like the remains of Chinese elm...which is a tree that is often foolishly planted as a hedge. It grows very vigorously and is very hard to get rid of (voice of bitter experience here). If you don't prune it ruthlessly it will grow up to 25 feet tall or so...when all you wanted was a nice little hedge!

I've seen this near my own home recently, with an ordinary row of evergreen trees that had their lower branches pruned off. A few bits just like that were left in the fence. I'm tempted to try pulling one of the smaller ones out to see if it is truly stuck, or the landscaper was just in a hurry.

B & W is a nice choice for this shot. I like the rule of thirds use here. Very effective.
