Comments: patched building

nice shot.i like how all the windows in the middle are dark

Posted by mikhail at July 20, 2005 12:54 AM

Well, you don't see that every day...

Would have looked nicer with a tilt/shift lens, or a view camera, but you've worked around the obstacle of your perspective and made a good image.

Awesome. I just had the strangest thing happen, try it. Shrink the window until it takes about 3/5 the screen. Then scroll the page up and down quickly while looking at the middle windows. Great shot, I really like it.

looks like a disease. i like the warm glow from the upper left corner with the larger window. that was the second thing that caught my eye. though it does seem that many people in that building have bulbs with orange hues.

Posted by rich at July 20, 2005 02:46 AM

Very interesting. I really like the glowing warmth of the lights inside the building as well as the patchy exterior.

Sam... when I have limited time for just a quick moment on the net, your site always is the one that gets my attention before any others. Your work is unlike anything out there on the web. I have never seen a photo of yours that I was not able to find something good in. You inspired my photoblog and my interest in photography. Looking at your work constantly moves me try harder.

what a strange building!!!
It almost looks as if it was made of paper or something....
cool picture!

Posted by nicolas at July 20, 2005 04:52 AM

Great capture. The small windows and lights in contrast with the wall looks like patchwork.

When I scroll the page down , I feel the building is coming to me ;)

hello Sam,
Mondriaan would have loved the building at Peter Street and your foto of it. There is this light, day- and artificial, and a wonderful playing between windows and renovation stains.
Thank you,
greetings from Holland.

Hi there,

A friend of mine e-mailed me today, saying that he'd seen your photoblog and that I should take a look. I've just spent about 20 minutes looking through some of your work and I'm really impressed.

I'm really into my photography too - I use a Nikon D70, though I don't get to go out with it quite as often as I like. The shots you're getting with your Canon are very impressive - you've got a definite individual style and it's very striking. I particularly like the way you make everyday scenes interesting.

Thanks for sharing your shots. I've really enjoyed looking through some of them.

Peace,
James

Falou!

Hi Sam ,

I just saw your pics on Flickr and then came here for an amazing tour.
The patch on the building give different feeling to this ordinary daily-look buiding.

Wonderful Job!

Congratulations Sam on the BBC article today.
I am sure very soon your site will be most visited photoblog on the internet.

I always wondered what’s your favorite photoblog?

Posted by Zaid at July 20, 2005 01:41 PM

Ha!

Thats' my office! 4th row of windows up on the left side, this is cool, your picture of the bar with the painted curtains actually faces this wall of our building.

The center row of windows are all black as that is the frieght elevator shaft. The picture actually starts on the second floor with the first not being shown here. I have been wondering when Glenn is going to finish painting the building, we have been in here for 15 months and it has been like this since we moved.

Nice shot Sam!

I like this shot a lot. I like how many of the windows are different, some are refelecting other things, some you can see the lights on inside.. Very nice!

Fantastic pic! Congrats on the BBC xposure too!

I just stumbled across this website about a week ago, and i've just been blown away by the work that you (thankfully) share with visitors to your site. A great source of inspiration.

Keep up the great work!!

Geeze! Where are all your visitors at, Sam? Can't anyone recognize an integrated circuit board when the see one? Obviously it's intended to provide mind control on the occupants and spy on them.
He, he, he, haw, hoo, ho, ho, ho.

I knew we were coming to this. How soon for all buildings? :) :P

congrats on the bbc link- regular kudos for an excellent pic- its pretty insane how much love there is in these comments (for good reason) but still pretty insane

Posted by holytrini at July 20, 2005 07:03 PM

The composition reminds me of something I did a a little while ago.

But what I really want to know is: which is the building and which are the patches??

Good find!

Hey, Sam, congrats on the appearance on BBC Online!

Posted by Gloria at July 20, 2005 11:30 PM

Interesting paint job on that building. It looks pixelated. Maybe it's the Matrix building ;)

Posted by Darren at July 21, 2005 09:01 AM

well, I'll be honest. I don't like this one as much. I always find your photography very attractive, because you always look at the world through a different angle than an average person. The pictures you take always say something about the photographer behind the lens, they say something about you. But this picture, I think an average person could have taken as well, and it says nothing about you as the photographer.

Posted by hanieh at July 23, 2005 10:11 AM

haha funny I used to work in that building. and yes it is very much made out of paper.

I just stumbled on this really neat site and as I peruse the older images, I just can't help but think how wonderful they all are. When I got to this one the first thing that came to mind was LEGOS!!

Thanks for the awesome pictures!!

I was just introduced to your site by a friend, and think all the photos are wonderful. I just had to put my comment in on this one, as I work in this building! I've always been curious as to how it got to its current state...

great site, keep up the phenomenal work.
