Comments: fresh mushrooms

Hi Sam. I really like this one - simple and understated. As a Torontonian, the sight of a building wall painted with an advertisement long out of use is a familiar one, especially in some of the "old europe" neighborhoods.

To my eye, this one almost looks like a flag the way you've framed it.

Nice work.

really love this shot! the blue color as eye-catcher, the peeling paint, the texture, the shapes, just wonderful!

It looks like an abstract painting. And it took me a while to discover the mushrooms :)

+sigh+ how boring

nice. reminds me of a well-worn flag.

Again, quite beautiful.

I fear that a bit of the impact is lost in your photograph, however, because your blog site has a white border around the photo. I think that if people order prints of this from you, they would probably matte it in grey or black.

Thank you again for your work!

The checkboard style is interesting, but not as good as your previous work.

My sister, Fred Knox, sent me your url and i'm glad she did. Looking through your pictures brings a coupe of thoughts to mind. I wish I had had a camera when I lived in Toronto, and it would be a great thing to take a picture everyday, no matter what. I enjoyed the reminder of what life is like in Toronto (sorry about the hot weather, its just about perfect here in LA). I also really enjoyed the pictures themselves. Keep up the great work. (gotta get me a photoblog)

One of the characteristics I love about old Toronto buildings, is that they always seemed to have their signs painted directly onto the brick, rather than having hanging appendages.

Does that say "fresh mushrooms daily"?

I really like the rectangular layout of the composition.

Ah, color. Color is the most relative medium in art.

I bet the mushroom growers never dreamed that they were creating a future abstract painting when they painted that ad! It reminds me a little of one of Jasper Johns' flag paintings.

And what 'paintings' will we leave behind, unwittingly? Probably just a lot of plastic garbage, alas........

Nice eye, Sam - thanks! And Happy Canada Day! :-)

A serene, calm, almost melancholic glimpse of the spectacular within the ordinary. I've been repeat-hitting my "Stumble-on" button in search of urban digital photographers for the last few days, and, without sounding too arse-licky, Sam, you're one of the best out there. I get so fed up of looking at the same old skyscapes that have been Photoshopped beyond their actual aesthetic worth. Your pics are about your eye first and foremost, and it's nice to see that you're using your tools to enhance your work rather than to mask your mediocrity.

honestly, very plain, no flavor to it. you've definatly had better.

not very pretty.."mr.gorbatchev...tear down this wall."

Are those mushrooms growing on the wall? You can call them fresh, but I wouldn't eat it.

Wow, this is a cover photo for sure! Super. I was wondering how you could possibly top yesterday's photo, but somehow, somehow you have. Best photo since sliced bread!

I hope you don't decide to start charging a subscription fee to this site. I am hooked on your priceless images of beauty!
