Comments: godrays and wine

Yeah ! Love it ! The sky is really beautiful with the sun rays !

Posted by Pilou at June 30, 2005 03:50 AM

Isn't Canadian Club a whiskey?

Posted by Paul at June 30, 2005 03:53 AM

That's absolutely gorgeous.

Posted by Louis at June 30, 2005 03:55 AM

Brilliant !

Posted by Arash at June 30, 2005 03:56 AM

For me, this is a really 'you' picture. Great composition, great light and colours all making this superb.

Posted by Andy (SensorChip) at June 30, 2005 05:07 AM

the heavens declare the glory of GOD and the expanse of the sky tells of His handiwork.... psalm 19...a truly awe-inspiring picture but i feel the liquor sign is only a distraction....man's creation pales in comparison to that of the Almighty.

Posted by martin at June 30, 2005 06:09 AM

oh my god, this is savage..

Posted by Neil C at June 30, 2005 06:34 AM

Two comments:

1) WAY too much Photoshop work in this one.

2) That's a RYE bottle, not wine.

Posted by Jonesy at June 30, 2005 07:06 AM

hmm...a strange atmosphere

Posted by jesse at June 30, 2005 07:14 AM

As usual, you make an uncredible shot. This one is really wonderful, the light is so beautiful: congrats.

Posted by Jules at June 30, 2005 07:18 AM

Shouldn't it be Godrays and Whiskey? Nice shot though.

amazing shot, the sky is fantastic, dramatic and the colours are surreal. love the old worn typography on the distillery sign...

great : )

Posted by enzo at June 30, 2005 07:52 AM

beautiful godrays :)

Posted by shahin at June 30, 2005 08:32 AM

and God said, "Let there be Canadian Club!" and he saw that this was good.

Posted by Maria at June 30, 2005 08:46 AM

Tremendous shot. Really shows the heavenly side of alcoholic beverages! ;-)

Posted by Michael at June 30, 2005 09:27 AM

the sun always looks so cool behind a big dark cloud. nice shot. i'm probably going to be the 30th person to point this out but Canadian Club is definitely not wine.

Sam:

Stunning sky image! Would you be willing to tell if it is natural or if it has been tweaked a bit in the photo editor? It is captivating.

Then, when I scroll down an see the sky is almost a beacon down to the add featuring the bottle of Canadian Club whiskey, I laughed but then was intrigued. There are two ways I can see to interpret the image:

1. The bright, vivid sky above is akin to light being given off by the billboard. A pseudo- positive image.

or

2. The bright, vivid sky above is a contrast to the stormy, cloudy, dark and foreboding skyline at the height of the billboard. This would suggest to me a negative image for the whiskey.

Either interpretation is fine, I just enjoy the image, as always.

It does make me thirsty for a nice drink, however. :)

If you have a momement, please consider visiting and comment on my own photoblog. It is through comments that I can grow in my skills.

i've been coming here ever since I found the site via the bloggies....but today's pic...just fantastic!

Posted by Ninja at June 30, 2005 10:55 AM

Well done, Sam.
While enjoying the image, I have found even more amusement in the comments. Many who ask for accuracy in the "wine or whisky" matter do not know how to spell whisky. Personally, I would settle for the image quality. Call the product by any name, but spell it correctly.

Posted by Ron at June 30, 2005 11:07 AM

Brilliant, Sam. Truly.

Posted by myla at June 30, 2005 11:10 AM

i like this photo. with photoshop or without, it doesn't matter, the final product matters. i think the image would be more powerful without the whiskey sign.
nice work.

i made your photoblog my home page at work a few days ago and i am ~never~ disapponted! and now i'm thirsty for some CC!

Posted by Molly at June 30, 2005 12:05 PM

Beauteous Sam, just beauteous!

Thanks to God for making it and thanks to you for noticing and recording it!

And the juxtiposition of passionate, natural gorgeousness and the somewhat sullen ad board is quite amusing.......

Posted by Kathy at June 30, 2005 12:05 PM

heavenly! its an amazing shot, i love the colors; photoshop'ed' or not.

I can't leave any comment here! it dosn't accept :(

Posted by saleh at June 30, 2005 12:22 PM

Beautiful clouds, and good catch on the billboard to give it that majestic perspective.

Posted by Andrew at June 30, 2005 01:22 PM

It always amazes me about people who bitch about the smallest things (spelling) yet are rarely correct themselves.

Too ironic - cuz I am checking in on Toronto since my folks are there for the International Alcoholics Anonymous Conference today!
Cheers!

Posted by Linda at June 30, 2005 02:25 PM

amazing. something i always look for in the sky. a little big in size. itd be nice to see it in a smaller scale to really get the full effect without scrolling.
first day visiting your site thanks to a link from another msn blogger.
look forward to checking out more of your work. toodles

You need to get back to photographing and leave the digital painting alone.

Posted by sherman at June 30, 2005 03:56 PM

the best part of this image is what you called the sunlight...GODRAYS. That's how i always see them.

Posted by bobio at June 30, 2005 04:05 PM

Beauteous, Sam! I have never seen light like this before, I am astounded that you were able to capture it on film. Or digital film, whatever. Your shots are getting better and better; this one reminds me of some of Steve McCurry's work. But it also ties in with yesterday's perspective shot, with the billboard framework and the rays of sunlights disappearing into a point.

Posted by Brenda at June 30, 2005 04:32 PM

Actually both spellings are correct. In Ireland and most of the the US it's Whiskey, others spell it Whisky. But that's that.
I love the image and am really wondering how some people can be so sure about it being a "digital painting"!? Could you guys please point out your clues? I have seen lights like this, just never had a camera handy.

Posted by Tina at June 30, 2005 04:47 PM

wow! although im sure its heavily photoshop"ed", this picture is absolutly beautiful..although i might be the only one studying sam's photographs from close, that shape in the white cloud, it looks like an angel!with the little wings. i do suspect it's photoshopped but hey! who cares!!

Posted by Andy at June 30, 2005 04:56 PM

Nice shot. Clouds are often a great motive. This ist even better with the advertising wall in front ...

The picture is stunning!

dogstone: The image file name has "ad" in it and therefore it could be blocked by an ad filtering program... I had to disable my adblock to see it.

Posted by Kimmo at July 1, 2005 01:45 AM

I can't see this picture! I can see the one before and the one after, (It's not the browser, I've tried it in three)

Posted by Paul Hullock at July 2, 2005 06:35 AM
