Hi Sam,

MOST of the time you are definitely awesome, but a shot like this one...I don't get it. One has to be hard pressed to find any serious significance in this picture ( artistically, etc) beyond the colors - which are clearly boosted in saturation.

I had to share my thoughts

Sam:

Such eautiful color! Even the most humdrum of subject matters can be made into beautiful art with the right "eye" on the subject matter. That is the gift you possess and I find I learn a great deal from your work.

As I continue to build my skills as a photographer, I hope that I too, can find my own sort of talent that will encourage others to visit and comment on my work.

Bravo!

Hi, Sam!

Your shots are quite an inspiration to me since I don't live in such a beatiful city. I'm just trying to find nice shot in the dirt. I've just bought my very first camera (fujifilm FinePix S3000) and I fell in love with it. Can I send you a few shots so you can comment them and give me some advice? I live in Tijuana and we haven't got those buildings and greens and reds that you have there in Toronto, but have plenty of pink, blue, yellow and brown. So here I am just trying and learning. I'm a daily visitor of your blog; I really love it. Congratulations for such a talent, master!

Um? Do you suppose the gold couch from yesterday might be inside this baby?

And I think that's my broom. (Ha!)

Your more a man than I thought, Sam, for publishing my comments on yesterday's pic. Maybe the whole building is in this dump truck? There's not enough space for all the bad. How I pray for the cities to improve housing quality and the life that can be lived in them. Very hopeful.

The color is the grabber here, for sure. It's also a good reminder of how messy we are while "relaxing". Someone follows - working.

Sorry Sam, not good. Of course I will make this comment a bit constructive. First off, I believe you exposed this a bit much, or the contrast is way too high up there. The colors are blinding! This would have looked a LOT better in black and white, try it out. Another thing to try is giving it the "old picture that had some color applied to it" look, where the colors are washed out and the photo is pretty dark.

Here are the two images that suggest how to improve!

Hope this helps!

Colour, detail, perspective. Hyper levels of each, which makes this A-1 great.

Despite the mixed reviews on this one, I think in color or black and white, this photo stands out as gorgeous simplicity. Maybe I'd cut the 2003 a bit more or less, but that's it. :) I'd send it to Toronto P&R for an ad, if a city-sponsored organization would ever run an ad...hah. The shovel and the broom are just awesome.

It was fotos like these that first got my interest in photography -- shots of ordinary life made so incredibly interesting.
