awesome. I noticed that red bike post in the background... possibly from that spraypint the abandoned bike thing?

Posted by darren at June 24, 2005 01:44 AM

The left and centre couch cushions with their furrowed brows look quite angry to be abandoned on the sidewalk, whereas the right cushion looks rather sad and resigned to its fate. Poor couch.

Fun capture, Sam! Thanks!

And hey, was that bike stand across the street decorated by your Pedals and Paint buddies? :-)

Oh when o when will my outdoor sofa (couch) shot come?!?Fantastic gold colour leaping out of this image.

hehe, looks at the pillows' faces : ) two left ones are suspicious, and the right one is completely relaxed, even naive : )

Posted by trinz at June 24, 2005 05:47 AM

Sometimes you need to sit down! Who would have kept a sofa that long? Must have seen a lot of a**. It looks like circa 1950.
Anyhow, I like this photo, it tells a story.

The Juxsposition of the couch as I scrolled down gave me a chuckle.

I love the elemental substance of the couches in the middle of this atmosphere..very nice contrast...great work each and every day:D

sitting still where others are rushing by can be a very enjoyable experience.

Hmm. Are the sofas rejects from Dennison Apartment or Dandy Cleaners ("repairs & alterations")?

You know... The size of the shot makes you have a feeling about it that suddenly changes when you scroll down and see the bottom. It's really cool.

you've had better

What a totally hideous apartment building and the couch isn't much except gold flash that would be needed in that depressing place. Noisy junk housing - the standard - and amazingly the same quality you get for a million dollars or more these days in a condo. Don't believe me? Type "noisy condo" into Google and note the over 20,000 responses you get - 2,000 for Canada alone.

Our building code is a rip off of ugliness of noise even in the best new places. Pity what suckers buyers are being made into - and trapped in a double bind. Can't admit it or lose value.

That's why Mike Harris was able to use the 20% of renters move every year as a way to get rid of rent control. Everyone moves hoping to find better and it's almost all junk - except the rare find of a very old place that is quiet due to how it's built instead of force of law.

Guess you won't publish this one, eh Sam?

Godless cities of the earth.

nice pictures. It'd be cool if you could, like, get them sent to your email everyday or something like that. Can you?

Posted by Justina at June 25, 2005 12:14 AM

Justina,

Try using the rss feed. You could use Mozilla thunderbird as your mail reader, and it also supports RSS, so it will have a similar effect to having the photo emailed every day.

Hah this couch is everywhere! It's the most famous couch in the city.

Great title - and this shot is so you! Great work!

Great photo...I've always hated this block building. It's actually on Dundas Street east of Jarvis closer to Sherbourne Street.

This couch is getting more & more famous all the time. It as an image on www.myspace.com - true testiment to what's hot. An amazing wonderful & inspired photograph. Kudos.

is this beside buddah belly? i remember this summer, at my friends show, we stepped out for a smoke and found similar looking couches awaiting us in the middle of the street. offering a seat. :)
it looked very peculiar, a bunch of young people, trying to fit on a couch in the middle of the street.

anyway, your photos are very good :) i randomly found them while looking for reference. i miss toronto alot, and this is a very nice reminder of it. you capture the city well and all of my favorite places as well. thank you!
