Comments: portraits of the dead

Hey Sam! :-) I saw these 'dead people' too! But man, I never thought of photographing them the way you did. The shallow DOF really worked here, as well as the close-ups. Excellent images, Sam! [I bet the movie promoters would chase you to buy these images.] -- José :-)

Those are amazing photos, and i'm insanely jealous that (a) it got filmed in your town and (b) it's getting released in North America now, and not til August or some such thing where I live. Bah!

Wow, that first one did POP. For a second, I thought I had missed Halloween. The first and third shots are my favorites here.

It is scary... I wonder how you can engage in SO many activities!!!

Posted by Ioannis at June 21, 2005 02:49 AM

even if we didn't know u were a horror fan, we sure do now!

Posted by aashish at June 21, 2005 03:10 AM

Truly magnificient shots. Looks like screen shots from the original movie. the pics are crystal clear n the 'dead' look a lot very original and scary.. if the dead walk, they'd probably be exactly like this..

Greate shots, as always! ciao ciao Blue!

Posted by Blue! at June 21, 2005 04:34 AM

I wouldn't have noticed the PS depth of field. Nice images, they all work really well and especially together.

That's sick man! Someone's good with the makeup. This reminds me of Dawn of the Dead. Excellent shots Sam.

I'm blown away again!
Your subject matter and your craft always amaze me!
I just love the first and forth shots!

Cool! Glad they did this promo bit, I haven't heard much about the movie otherwise. How can anyone not love a zombie? And nice job with the blur, looks authentic.

Posted by Scott at June 21, 2005 09:26 AM

A little freaky, but nice shots. Good work on the DOF in the first photo.

Your photoblog is masively impressive. Having worked 4 months in an electronics superstore selling digital cameras, i have concluded that stealing the Canon EOS350 Digital Rebel XT might not be a good idea, coz i wont be able to shoot much from behind bars anyway. Which is why im saving up for it. On my student budget..i shall have one by the year 2010. If you are ready for fierce competition in about 5 years...do look me up :p

Posted by iNK at June 21, 2005 09:54 AM

The first shot is definitely my favorite of the bunch

Posted by photojunkie at June 21, 2005 10:08 AM

That would have been really scary if you were 5 years old and walking down the street and saw that!
Reminded me of shawn of the dead too.

This is a great series! Toronto seems like such a lively city :) I applaud you on these shots, and all the others before and after. Great work!

Posted by Gia at June 21, 2005 10:33 AM

haha i actually know the guy in the first shot!! he was also a zombie in the movie Dawn of the Dead! he makes a fabulous zombie and you, my friend, take amazing pictures! =)

Posted by Sana at June 21, 2005 11:11 AM

Funny, Sam! The girl on the bottom looks more like she's smiling than dead. ;-) Great photos. I've been away from my computer for a while and it is good to come back to these incredible pics you've been posting! I know now what it is to find a new pic to post daily, and so thanks again for all of your hard efforts in bringing GREAT ones to us each day.

fantabiulous!!!
realy wel-done

Posted by mohsen salek at June 21, 2005 12:19 PM

very nice. I love the intense eyes in the second and forth shots.

Posted by Rachel at June 21, 2005 12:22 PM

Amazing! I love George A. Romero films! These photos are very entertaining.
What really disturbs me is that no one seems phased by people appearing to have mortal wounds just ambeling around the streets. Is at least one old-person clueless about zombie movies going to try and help them?

Posted by Felicia at June 21, 2005 12:42 PM

Very cool! Looks like a fun time! And such visual candy :-)

Posted by laurent at June 21, 2005 01:00 PM

Toronto keeps getting over-run with zombies (the last time was in Resident Evil: Apocalypse) so we're pretty casual about it now.

Posted by Adam at June 21, 2005 01:04 PM

Hah very intense shots. I wasnt aware of this stunt. What's odd is that this movie greatly reminds me of the Dawn of the Dead, and just about any other Resident Evil style movie.

Posted by Raffi at June 21, 2005 03:28 PM

Good job!

Posted by Deisler at June 21, 2005 05:05 PM

Creepy! Good shots though, they certainly dressed for the part! And that was a good call for decreasing the depth of field in the first photo.

Posted by Fellow Eskimo at June 21, 2005 06:37 PM

Well it's an interesting advertisment, the problem I have is these people's advertising may frighten young children.

That aside, very cool pics. You're an inspiration to my own photoblog at http://photo-op.ca/ which is now live.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

Oh great. Now I have Michael Jackson's "Thriller" in my head. Oh -- and I'm planning to visit Toronto this fall or late summer! Your photos plus me meeting a former Toronto resident have convinced me I have to go.

Posted by Phil at June 21, 2005 10:02 PM

Awesome pics (1st is my fave). I'm a major horror fan myself, so I now feel strangely validated for following your site unawares of your darker inclinations. Good stuff, and totally unexpected.

Posted by John Burridge at June 21, 2005 10:17 PM

These are awesome photos. In the second shot, that zombie has one killer stare. I wish I could have been there to take some of my own!

Posted by Natty at June 21, 2005 10:31 PM

I think we all need to keep our children all locked up indoors so they never get scared by stuff like this. No one has ever grown up normal after being scared as a child. Sorry for the sarcasm.

Hey the shots look great.
I'm number three. Wicked shot.
Got any more of me?

Posted by Ray at June 28, 2005 02:09 PM

A friend of mine told me about your site, and he also said you had some 'land' pictures. These are great! I wish I could have been there. WOW!
