I love the colors in this ... and the irony!

Nice contrast, and I really like the colors! The garbage in front of the building is almost surreal - looks like there is a strike going on in Toronto.

Interesting!seems this kind of color is really popular!um...not in China...but I do like it.This reminds me "building block"which is my favorit toy when i was a kid.

Wow! Looks like a tribute to the Gulf Porsches that were the star of that great Steve McQueen movie 'Le Mans'

Are the colours really that vibrant? Would give me a headache working near a place like that... ;-)

Posted by David at May 25, 2005 03:05 AM

A little too much saturation boost? I've walked past the place many times, and it's never been so bright as it is in your photo. Maybe it's my monitor, but those yellow parking signs look orange and the persons blue jeans look aquamarine. Do you up the saturation on your camera, or in Photoshop afterwards? Sometime a little less is better, in my opinion. Nice photo otherwise. It's a very clean garbage scene!

Posted by appleseeed at May 25, 2005 04:44 AM

wow, they did chose bold colors ... a true eye-catcher in this area it seems!

Posted by Liisa Anderson at May 25, 2005 05:44 AM

that is incredibly bright paint! It really draws the attention relative to all the grey surrounding it. I almost wish there was more of the grey in the picture to highlight that contrast even more. nice shot.

i love this shot, the colours make me want to paint my house in suburban ottawa the same...would shock the neighbours out of their mind-numbingly dull slumber

the hydrant looks like a weird Sith-like teat sticking off the building waiting for the little garbage bag piglets to start rooting

Posted by daisy at May 25, 2005 07:58 AM

do they recycle?

Posted by ... at May 25, 2005 08:16 AM

Does Toronto have a garbage collection strike at the moment? The colour scheme of the building is aweful but the piles of rubbish is even worse!

(I really hope rubbish day isn't usually like this, or maybe we are spoilt in Oz)

ooooh,It`s wonderful

Hi Sam, I stumbled across you site last night, and spent over two hours looking at your fabulous pics what an amazing eye for composition and colour you have. I will be certain to look everyday! Keels

I really like this image! This is my first visit to your blog, first image I see. I am very attracted to strange beauty, and this is a prime example.

I seem to remember another garbage bag shot from a while back. This one is a bit more disturbing in the sense that there are a *lot* of bags there. Yikes! Great shot, though.

[this is good]

Just wondering what the building is to generate that load of trash, or, as someone suggested, there's a strike going on. I love painted bricks like this, even if the color has been boosted. Very striking.

great composition... this shot just screams out at you

Posted by cook at May 25, 2005 10:24 AM

nice.
i'm guessing it was garbage p-up day. lol.

Posted by barbara at May 25, 2005 11:03 AM

i like it, but, do the eyes truly perceive colors this bright in real life?

Posted by jesse at May 25, 2005 11:05 AM

The building is a youth hostel.

Posted by Mark Wickens at May 25, 2005 11:12 AM

and these bags are not the official Toronto collection bags... (see, http://toronto.ca/yellowbag/index.htm ) they might be sitting there for weeks.

Posted by Dan at May 25, 2005 11:42 AM

Looks like a selective colour shot, but I don't think it is!? Nice shot.

Posted by Andy (SensorChip) at May 25, 2005 11:43 AM

Wow, certainly very bright! One of those intresting street shots I like.

I LOVE the contrast between yesterday and today's photo!
Great work ;)

Booooooring.

Posted by Adam at May 25, 2005 12:12 PM

boring? this is great stuff. love the contrast.

Posted by Chris at May 25, 2005 12:34 PM

These colors kick butt! Wish the garbage bags weren't in the way. The orange sign matches :)

My daughter wants to paint our house orange, but I don't think our neighbors would like us if we did something like this!

Posted by jamie at May 25, 2005 01:10 PM

I like how the building is centered within the 2 (contrasting) signs, almost as if they placed the signs so that no cars can obscure the view of this building! The garbage bags are interesting visually but take away from the building itself.. almost as if the building is merely a backdrop. I would like it better if there was no garbage bags, and it was cropped a bit farther down, because the top of the picture is quite heavy, and without the garbage bags it would be unbalanced.

It is just about me, I was born in 1976, my favorite color is orange and blue and my life feels like this mess sometimes.
I like all kinds of contrast in this photograph.

Posted by ula at May 25, 2005 04:21 PM

Wonderful colors, love the orange and the turquoise. And what a great contrast with the black trashbags. Beautifully spotted. good eye...

Posted by flygirl at May 25, 2005 04:29 PM

ive come to the conclusion pictures of garbage is one of your things;) cool shot and contrast...bright colors..although i do suspect vivid color setting on camera or just contrast increased photoshio or smth...anyway great shot!(not boring in any case!)

I visit your website every single day, and needless to say, marvel at the pictures and your eye for photography. I write a kind of diary online, and wrote about this website. I just wanted to check with you if its ok that I link your website to the post. You will find it here: http://nas.cl.uh.edu/padmajaa/diary.htm under "May 24th, 2005"
Thanks, and keep the great work going!

Strangely enuff there is no garbage strike here. This is "garbage, as usual" in the T dot.

grrrrrr...

Posted by amj at May 25, 2005 06:34 PM

Beautiful colors.

Posted by stephanie at May 25, 2005 06:42 PM

Too nasty colours. Too enlighted/saturated. But the view's still interesting for me as for the one who lives out the Canada.

Posted by bmoll at May 25, 2005 07:13 PM

I think I can see the seperation between the two layers - one of which you brightened the colours with contrast. Maybe I don't see it thought.
I think I would have prefered for this shot to be cropped at the edge of the coloured wall, because the difference in widths to either side of the building are really bugging me - and not in a good way.
I do like the black garbage bag textures against the wall, and I like the signs framing the building.
Interesting shot. When I first saw it this morning, I didn't think it'd strike such a response.

Posted by Skauce at May 25, 2005 07:28 PM

these colours are so cranked! walked by the place, and the colors don't look like that. this has been touched up a tad much. sorry, just my opinion.

Posted by bobio at May 26, 2005 05:59 PM

great colors! and they are hip this year. they will probably have to repaint the building next year though *g*.
