Posted by bv at May 20, 2005 12:33 AM

wow. I am a total sucker for impressionistic reflections in buildings and this wins all the marbles. wow!

Posted by shoepal at May 20, 2005 12:39 AM

a chuck close representation in real life! excellent photo.

Posted by michael at May 20, 2005 01:02 AM

I only have one word for this shot, Sam. WOW.

Posted by myla at May 20, 2005 01:06 AM

Great great image! I must check it out on my big screen PC.

Posted by Nitsa at May 20, 2005 01:11 AM

amazing one!!! awesome! gr8 going!

Posted by aashish at May 20, 2005 01:23 AM

this is an excellent photo. however, instead of always listing street names (which is meaningless to most of us) why dont you tell us what you are shooting, or give greater detail? just an idea. cheers.

Posted by jesse at May 20, 2005 01:34 AM

niiiiiiice looks like a painting :)

Posted by Hitesh Sawlani at May 20, 2005 01:54 AM

Amazing! Flat perspective.

Posted by novon at May 20, 2005 01:58 AM

Wow, this image is amazing.

Posted by .:pvav.photoblog:. at May 20, 2005 02:04 AM

This is so great the first part looks like a beautiful panting and then the building underneath just brings us back to reality.

Posted by Vincent at May 20, 2005 02:17 AM

I must say I love this. The play and trickery of scale are fantastic, aswell as the flawless reflections, if I can say such a thing. The tiles of reflection are perfect. Very nice capture.

Posted by Brent at May 20, 2005 02:31 AM

Nice shot Sam.

Mick.

Posted by Mick at May 20, 2005 02:37 AM

Amazing, all those colors within a city, a far cry from the stereotypical grey

i've been "lurking" on your site for a while now, i've gone through most of your work, and its all amazing, but this picture made me want to post something

Posted by Evan at May 20, 2005 03:33 AM

You should locate roughly where you are. neat job.

Posted by behrouz at May 20, 2005 03:34 AM

great shot

Posted by Mamad at May 20, 2005 03:37 AM

Awesome pattern and reflection...brilliant colors! I like how you've linked the abstract/pattern together with the buildings in the very bottom part.

Posted by Ryan Rahn at May 20, 2005 04:32 AM

Wow... love that you've included that building at the bottom.

Posted by James at May 20, 2005 04:33 AM

wow, at first it looked like some dodgy photoshop effect (before i scrolled to the building at the bottom). it's a massive building i'm guessing.. breathtaking. warm colours too, gives the feeling of a hot, melting city.

Posted by laura at May 20, 2005 05:33 AM

beautiful composition. you're very good, you.

Posted by tj at May 20, 2005 06:07 AM

Great reflection shot - love the 'wobbly' effect produced by the windows. Good light too.

Posted by David H-W at May 20, 2005 06:08 AM

Oh my... god. :O

Awesome! The windows's effect!

Posted by Eek at May 20, 2005 06:12 AM

Beauty in a commercial setting.

Posted by Karen at May 20, 2005 06:16 AM

More great colours, such an abstract feel.

Posted by Ben at May 20, 2005 06:25 AM

Lovely shot, the rippling and reflective effect of glass was well captured.

Posted by John at May 20, 2005 06:32 AM

dag nab it, that is a very, very nice shot.

Posted by johanna at May 20, 2005 06:52 AM

I have been watching this space for a while now. But I never posted a comment before. I dunno what it is, but this picture today is amazing !!!!!

I mean, people do tricks in Photoshop to get those kind of pictures. And guess what.... ? That stuff is out there in the real world, you just have to find it.

Keep up the good work there.

PS: thanks to folks like you, I got myself a Canon EOS 300D now as well......

Posted by TimTim at May 20, 2005 07:08 AM

wow, wow, WOOOW!

Posted by David at May 20, 2005 07:17 AM

That is a cool photo! I love teh liquid reflection contrasted with 'solid' foreground.

Posted by Bojan at May 20, 2005 07:18 AM

Stunningly beautiful! Love starting my day by looking at your site. As a fellow Torontonian, it is great to see the city through another's eyes.

Posted by yinng at May 20, 2005 07:36 AM

Sam... wow, you blow my mind man.

Posted by Richard at May 20, 2005 07:51 AM

Beautiful shot, Sam. The building looks like a tiled wall. Sorry I didn't make your opening last night, I hope it was a huge success!

Posted by Jay at May 20, 2005 07:58 AM

Cool reflection of the skyline. With all the ripples in the glass, the scene looks scorching hot. But then, with all the shade at the bottom of the frame, it has a cool, quite feeling, too. Nice.

Posted by Darren at May 20, 2005 08:45 AM

wow, that's a bummer reflection! gorgeous!!

Posted by Liisa Anderson at May 20, 2005 08:50 AM

Wow that is up there with your best Sam. Good job and keep up the amazing high standard. A+

Posted by Stephen Wheldon at May 20, 2005 08:53 AM

Sam, I believe the word *wow* will be echoed, like a wave as fluid as this image, in front of many computer screens around the world.

Stunning work and Congratulations once again for your photography showing in the Toronto Photography Festival - excellent to see.

Posted by Fiona at May 20, 2005 08:59 AM

i like this shot. kind of reminds me of the matrix when neo saves the helicopter with trinity in it and slams against the building and makes wave like forms against the surface... but hey i watch a little too many movies... i like :D

Posted by sinstone at May 20, 2005 09:00 AM

Wow, great photo. I like the shimmering effect for all the panes of glass. I don't think the windows shimmer like that normally so some clever photography technique at work here. PS why do you make the buildings I work(ed) at look so much more interesting than they actually are? :)

Posted by DJB at May 20, 2005 09:09 AM

OH!!!!! How do you do it?! Do you ever correct vertical alignment in PS? You'll have to teach me one day...

Posted by Riri at May 20, 2005 09:19 AM

about 85 percent of this shot resembles what looks like an urban modern monet-y impressionist painting while the bottom 15 puts the 85 in a more reality-based context. the two inhabiting the same image makes for an interesting picture. the colors here, of course, are outstanding as well as the shapes. great work.

Posted by chinablogger at May 20, 2005 09:19 AM

Absolutely stunning! Nice image!

Posted by Mark at May 20, 2005 09:25 AM

Looks like a painting :-)

Posted by clare at May 20, 2005 10:07 AM

Sam,

You've made a faceless, charmless modern building into a rich tapestry of colour and beauty.

Yay!

Posted by Michael at May 20, 2005 10:07 AM

Sam,

Great shot - as usual!

Posted by Reza Mazaheri at May 20, 2005 10:16 AM

YES...

Posted by dave at May 20, 2005 10:21 AM

FANTASTIC shot - very, very cool. Only think I'd have done differently would be to crop out the bottom ugly buildings...

GREAT shot!

Posted by Adam at May 20, 2005 10:31 AM

Sam: In response to Jesse's comment - I like to see the street names or locations - it gets me to see places I know in new ways.

Posted by Richard at May 20, 2005 10:41 AM

must agree with the chuck close comment. it's the first thing i thought of. but the oranges and yellows and slate blue have a great metallic quality. one could spend hours working out the abstract hieroglyphics in each segment of the overall photo.

Posted by Ken at May 20, 2005 10:45 AM

sam, congrats on your opening last night. photos were amazing... my fave was manhole cover, bird, bend. it was brilliant in print. if i had an extra $400 floating around i'd have snapped that up in a second! i've been a long time fan of your site, it was great to see your stuff in a tactile setting. thanks for your dedication to the art!

Posted by heather at May 20, 2005 10:52 AM

normally I'm not a fan of vertical shots that make me scroll, but this one was the exception. The colors are great but the long scroll, only to be brought back to reality at the very bottom, is terrific.

Posted by Robert at May 20, 2005 10:53 AM

Wow!
It looks like a mosaic!

Posted by tetsu at May 20, 2005 10:57 AM

Amazing. This one definitely sets itself apart from anything else remotely like it.

Posted by Jen at May 20, 2005 11:11 AM

Very surreal. The tapestry of gold, red and green at center-left is brilliant. It is interesting that the imperfections in a skyscraper hoped to be a perfect glass box by those who built it are the source of its real beauty.

Chaos from order = art. Well done!

Posted by Russ at May 20, 2005 11:26 AM

Awesome shot... I'm going to head to Edward & Bay on my lunch break just to try to figure out which building this is, and what buildings are in the reflection. :D

I do like that you list street names, and a location... not sure how much more description you can give.

Posted by Justin at May 20, 2005 11:33 AM

Sam,
First time poster, regular 'lurker'. I continue to push your site to all my friends! Each day you seem to blow us away even more with your ability to capture the picture-perfect moment!

I really want to get a better camera so that I can play around with the settings that you describe.

I think I may just check out your exhibit @ the 401 tomorrow!

Keep it up!

Cheers,

Posted by Todd at May 20, 2005 11:35 AM

Love this shot.
Your photo ehibition was great last night too.

Next time you visit Montreal check out the Palais de congres with it's multi-coloured glass panels.

Posted by Gerald at May 20, 2005 11:59 AM

I just love reflections. Personally I would of cropped out the building, however It's still a brilliant image.

Posted by Adrian at May 20, 2005 12:16 PM

this makes me think of a Seurat painting...very impressive!!

Posted by dogstone at May 20, 2005 12:55 PM

I'm a newcomer to the site - and am enjoying seeing my home town in a new light! My only complaint is that it's hard to get the full effect of the photo when I have to scroll to see it. It's nice to see the clarity that comes with having it big, but it's hard to see the whole picture overall.

Posted by Sara at May 20, 2005 01:13 PM

I never commented on any of your photographs but this time I can't help myself.
This one simply exploded off my screen the moment it opened.
It must give enormous satisfaction knowing that people all over the world are having this experience.

Posted by Toon at May 20, 2005 01:14 PM

gorgeously weakeningly impressive... it makes me love reality once again with all its blurry yet sharp twists.
more. please. more :)

Hi Sam,

Great shot. Beautiful reflection and colors. From where did you take this ? I also agree with jesse.. the street names don't mean anything to the most of us (who don't live in Toronto), I'm much more curious about other kind of info like time, location (are you taking this picture from a roof, through a window...) and how you came about to take this picture... if you have time ofcourse !

Posted by vg at May 20, 2005 03:15 PM

A truly stunning photo. I could go for a print of this one. The large size on your site adds a whole to this one. Great work!

Posted by Josiah at May 20, 2005 03:17 PM

It´s beautifull... Congratulations!

Posted by Raíssa - Brazil at May 20, 2005 03:34 PM

Amazing work. Reminds me (and my friends sitting near by) of the matrix.

Posted by Raffi at May 20, 2005 03:46 PM

wow - if you look closely enough you can even see the reflection of you in there!

Posted by brad at May 20, 2005 03:57 PM

This shot looks amazing. The colors, and the way individual windows distort the image looks great.

Posted by Matt at May 20, 2005 04:39 PM

Kick ass shot.

Dude, what kind of eyes you have? I could trade in your way of looking at things for all the money I have. You simply rock.

Keep rocking!

As mentioned previously, this makes a lovely mosiac

At this point, 72 other people have done their best to say how great today's shot is. All the comments together add up to less than this image deserves.
Perhaps, were I more articulate ... ;

but the best I can do is, Well done again, Sam! and thanks for sharing.

Posted by Ron at May 20, 2005 05:47 PM

Woooow! This is one of your bests. I love this.
I really don't find the right words to say how amazing this shot is. Well done.

Posted by Telli at May 20, 2005 06:45 PM

I'm particularly struck by the straightness of the lines, matching up perfectly on all sides. This is a really nice shot, Sam.

Posted by Abe at May 20, 2005 07:44 PM

Wow!!

I've been lurking, and looking at your pictures on a daily basis for about 6 months, but never commented here before... but this picture just blew my mind! I'm quite interrested in urban landscape photography, and have a EOS 350d - now if i just had your talent. Kudos!

Posted by Ole from Norway at May 20, 2005 08:53 PM

Best shot ever!

Posted by Ayan at May 20, 2005 08:58 PM

I'm trying to imagine where you took this shot from. If you're in the black building that is reflected are you that little blue speck on the roof?

Great job. I love the ripple effect.

Posted by Nancy at May 20, 2005 09:45 PM

There's certainly a hefty *W*O*W* factor in this one, Sam - highly deserving of all the kudos.

Posted by ad at May 20, 2005 10:14 PM

Great image dear sam... Congratulations!

Posted by sanaz at May 21, 2005 01:46 AM

I would say this is one of your best. The texture of the building and the real looking of the roof of the other building makes the two parts in a nice contrast that matches the contrast between blue and red.... nicely captured.

Posted by Reza at May 21, 2005 02:03 AM

Truly amazing!
You do have a wonderful imagination. You turn boring ordinary things into such wonderful pieces of art. Kudos. I just 'had to' post a comment for this one. This is the first time I'm leaving a comment on your site though I have viewed every single post of yours. This one surely deserves more credit than what all the comments here can provide. Wonderful work! I wish I could meet you in person. Unfortunately I'm in a different continent :( I have gone through many many photoblogs but I would rate yours the best!

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

Posted by Hemanth P at May 21, 2005 09:53 AM

I can only repeat several others: Wow!

Posted by Edwinek at May 21, 2005 01:15 PM

This is beyond one's wildest imagination of what is possible with lens in hand.

Meanwhile, I thought *I* had a spectacular view ~ unlblocked north up the East River in Manhattan; inclusive of the United Nations, the 59th Street Bridge, Sutton Place and Trump World Tower. Fuggedaboutit. I'd take this one in a heartbeat.

Oh, and I love the salmon vertical ridges rising perpendicular to the sleek, glossy horizontal tiles.

Damn, Sam, every time I think I'm gettin' better, I come visit your blog only to find out how far I've still to go. \;-D

I think you should keep using the street locations. You're building up a Toronto mythology with your fantasitc pics. Intersections in Toronto do add meaning to a picture. Think of the contrast when someone mentions Ave & Dav as opposed to Queen/Spadina. If people don't know it, then they'll get to know it eventually. I've never spent to much time in New York but somehow I know the mythology attached to SoHo, Harlem and the Bowery.

You do Toronto proud, Sam.
