Comments: coldplay at the edge

All you want to tell us about this story is in last picture... I think you can delete the first and the second one...

Posted by sandro at May 10, 2005 12:52 AM

Wow... I'm really going to be interested how people compliment today's pics. 'Nice composition', 'nice colour', etc... I can't see how people are going to ooze over these at all.

Sometimes I come to this site and I am utterly amazed. I have to sit back in my chair and just stare at the images, thinking ... 'one day... I wish I could take a picture like that'.

Other days like today, a few days ago with the 'garbage' shot, etc. - I'm sorry - just don't see the usual brilliance that I've grown accustomed to on this wonderful site.

I think I'm going to go through the archive today... find me a picture that I like...

Looking forward to tomorrow...

Adam

nice one.. i really fell for the intense expressions on the face of the girls in the last pic!

Posted by aashish at May 10, 2005 01:39 AM

Oh how I despise that band. :)

Pictures of them leaving are definitely a good thing.

But to each their own of course. :) The reaction of those girls to the officer on horseback towering beside them is amusing though.

Cool - this is very different. I like the story in the pictures. This mob reminds me of when Mariah Carey was arriving in lower Manhattan a few weeks ago. We were just walking down a street and poof - huge crowd like this.

Great colors, too!

Sam you've done it again. This series is fantastic. The expressions on the faces in the last shot -- and the police on horseback -- just wonderfully captured (as always).

Posted by myla at May 10, 2005 03:28 AM

I love the girl in a mini and Uggs. Never really got that look, myself, but then again I'm becoming an old fart.

Posted by Houser at May 10, 2005 05:26 AM

The second one is my favorite. The horse is scaring the uggs off that chick in the third one. Haha.

So I invite you to visit my french audioblog.

Bye and congratulations for your blog !

Looks like the police officer is having fans line up by height.

Posted by Kevin at May 10, 2005 07:33 AM

So THAT'S what it was!!! Darn it - I love Coldplay, and I just walked on by!

Posted by M. at May 10, 2005 07:56 AM

At Shuter St no less. You know its serious when they bring out the mounted police.

These aren't necessarily good photos at all. but I love how everyday life is captured in toronto. a real nice slice of life. good job!

I really need to live in the city or go into city more often, so many exciting and interesting things happen every day. Unlike the Suburbs all i see the the parkway everyday.

Coldplay good band

Shuter St. : )

Posted by JoshH at May 10, 2005 10:34 AM

the second shot looks more like a potential riot than a gaggle of girlie fans. :)

Posted by happy nice day at May 10, 2005 11:09 AM

I dunno. I think the last one is the best, but it would have been better if you could have been a bit to the right so the crowd was framed by the police.

Still, it's all about the moment isn't it?

Posted by Aegir at May 10, 2005 11:35 AM

I like the first image. The short girl in the red jacket trying to see over the crowd....He he! You can almost feel her fustration. I expect her to start jumping up and down to get a glimpse any second.

Awsomee! I heard about this on the morning show. I'm glad you took pictures of it. Awsome stuff. I love the edge.

Posted by Raffi at May 10, 2005 02:20 PM

The third is by far my favorite photo of this series. It captures the mood, the crowd and the celebrity theme the best of all of the photos.

Posted by Terri Ann at May 10, 2005 03:27 PM

Great vantage point in that third one! How did you get there? (Wait, let me think... Tele lens)

Posted by Peter at May 10, 2005 03:59 PM

(no, not even, I see now. All the more compliments for getting to your vantage point!)

Posted by Peter at May 10, 2005 04:02 PM

I would like to see the shots of Sam on the cameras being held up by all the fanatics!

Poor horses. So patient.

Posted by Kathy at May 10, 2005 04:50 PM

looks like these fans have never seen a horse before!! i think that they figured "screw Coldplay...we wanna see the horsies!" being from the country--and i mean reeeally country living--the last one is a most hilarious shot. sam, look into documentary photography. i think it would be interesting to see your perspective in photojournalism.

Posted by dogstone at May 10, 2005 05:53 PM

i think i really appreciate every shot you take. i don't know...i've been checking on your site on and off for like two years now and i always like to see pictures from you. i think they're all amazing personally.

continue bringing us amazing pictures. :) we love you...well at least i do! :D

I noticed how some of you either really liked, or really didn't like this series. I think it is important for Sam to keep diversity in his work, this helps him grow and become a more talented photographer. Just because this is a series of pictures of a group of people standing in front of a radio station doesn't mean that they're not nicely exposed, they are. And just because you have no interest in these people doesn't mean they're not nice compositions. It captures the moment, and that is what it was meant to do. Not every picture posted to this site is supposed to be a "photography" type photo, this series is something you would see in a newspaper perhaps, and with a proper title you would know exactly what was going on. When I come to this site everyday I don't expect to get blown away, sometimes I am, but sometimes it's important to try to learn and grow as a photographer myself using ddoi as inspiration. Anyways, if you think these aren't "particulary good photos at all", maybe you should try to find a way to enjoy them instead of complaining, after all Sam doesn't even have to post photos for us but he still does, think of it as a little present every morning.

Posted by Daniel at May 10, 2005 08:22 PM

those are neat pictures. they capture the excitement and the essesnce of the moment

Posted by tinker at May 10, 2005 08:32 PM

The first two photos simply introduce the story; the third photo is rich in detail and irony. Notice all the cameras pointing in the direction of the cameraman, the variations in height and expressions of the four women in the foreground. A different but wonderful photojournalism shot that captures the moment and it's landscape precisely.

Posted by Sam at May 10, 2005 09:47 PM

These people all waiting for you, Sam??

What a following !!!!

PS. Coldplay is a great band, but mannnnn, those are young kids all waiting to scream, aren't they. I like these images, not as much for the technical or arty photos, but like the chess guy. great slice of T.O life.

Posted by 6oh at May 10, 2005 11:06 PM

Look at the glowing tan of that little girl there. The blonde biting her lips was like "what's that smell?"

Posted by Boreo at May 11, 2005 12:13 AM

Coldplay is awesome. Nice shots of the crowd.

Posted by Matt at May 11, 2005 02:00 AM

That is crazy. We have a 102.1 The Edge in Dallas.

Posted by Caleb at May 11, 2005 09:16 AM

a. I jut like it
b. I love starbucks
c. I used to be a mounted policeman (UK)
