Comments: BMO and 390

Wow, everything looks so geometric and straight! I like how this one looks.

Simple and awesome :) Thanks again Sam to bring to my office pics of my city :)

a tall white monolith surrounded by black mini-monoliths, very cool.

good choice to hide the top of the tower.

Posted by Jon Clark at April 14, 2005 04:01 AM

oh, say, that's very, very nice!

Posted by bud at April 14, 2005 07:45 AM

great one which seems like the b&w-reply to this one!

Posted by Liisa Anderson at April 14, 2005 07:46 AM

This is fantastic! I think you were right in cropping the top of the tall building. It really forces the eye to move around the picture instead of leading it up and out of the frame. Plus, the range of tones is great.

I often find attractive the abstract composition and spacial organization underlying your images. In this one, I think these factors are not "underlying"; they are the image.

Personally, I like it.

It makes me think of Mondriaan in black and white, if you can imagine such a thing.

Wow. I really like this piece, Sam. It reminds me of an anime background... highly detailed, yet flat. It's so simple, yet so interesting. :)

Posted by emilydk at April 14, 2005 09:16 AM

Sam, I quite like this image. As far as I can tell, it's been converted to B&W, yes? Either way, I like how it balances on the cusp of abstract yet is still very much grounded in the concrete reality of skyscrapers. It's something I can look at for a while.

Hi from Colombia, you got a lot of fans here, and we like so much your pictures.
I like this one so much. You gave me a way to see Toronto from Bogota, it looks like a nice city.
Bye

amazing pattern shot....looks amazing in black and white!!!!;)

Great contrast and love the little details on the roofs - "390", etc...

From the warmth of yesterday's red brick to the cold, hard steel and glass of today's shot.........the wonderful contrasts of our city!

I love this photo in all of its graphic-y glory - those office towers have never looked so good!

Thanks, Sam!

dope.

Posted by jesse at April 14, 2005 11:17 AM

To me, this looks like the tower flares out at the top where it crosses from the black background buildings to the glaring white of the sky. It looks like a monstrous white wedge!

Posted by qoJ at April 14, 2005 11:56 AM

I think I'm the only one here. But I really don't find the capture that impressive. I do admire the geometric consistency of the photo, but other than that, it doesn't do anything for me.

like ur site, like the comments... seeing PUBLICity would be a worthwile venture ...one question: do u think keeping the top of the building in the pic would help keep the viewer's eye in the photo? i thinks its picture perfect.

Posted by Dave at April 14, 2005 12:51 PM

very cool, smooth shot. i like how the white tower stands out. real nice job on this one, as well as the others!

Posted by sheri at April 14, 2005 04:25 PM

Its great how perfectly straight the picture is. Nice.

Posted by Raffi at April 14, 2005 04:37 PM

hey man!
i really like your angle on things. I live in toronto too, and i love to wander and catch what i can on camera. i went back into some of your old shots and they are very beautiful. good work. keep in watching.

Posted by Lauren Watson at April 14, 2005 05:10 PM

Sweet picture Sam! Looks like the building is kinded of slanted at the top :)

Posted by Ayan at April 14, 2005 05:14 PM

I think that the black and white give this picture the right feeling, something that could not have been reached with a color image. Nice work.

Posted by Alessandra at April 14, 2005 05:17 PM

I absolutely love the composition, the textures and the 390 between these textures. This is a shot which you can only find on " Daily dose of imagery". Well done!

The white building looks flanged but it is not, this is an optical illusion. Re-size your web browser window horisontally so that the edge of the browser is right up against the right side of the building, you will see, the edge is perfectly straight!

Funny how the brain can fool you, I really thought it was flanged too!!

Posted by Andre at April 14, 2005 06:19 PM

A very nice shot, but I thought I'd link you along to some information about how telephoto lenses operate (e.g. that they do not flatten perspective) http://www.digitalartform.com/lenses.htm

best wishes,

Now its what I call a great photo. Reminds me the last level in some old games, waiting for a monster to come, and fight!

Posted by Yazdgerd at April 14, 2005 06:50 PM

Unique, more like this please.

I dropped by the gallery just before noon today, and it was locked up tight! I guess I'll have to try again sometime in the next week.

Posted by Nancy at April 14, 2005 09:06 PM

Amazing, really. Im impressed. And as an added bonus my dad works in the black building in the right.

Posted by darren at April 14, 2005 10:34 PM

Strong. Flattened space. Great design.

Nice view and nice panorama. But looking at this picture every morning when you wake up someday will getting very boring....Nice choice for getting a picture, wrong choice to live there...I hope you didn't buy that place.!!!!

Posted by payvand at April 16, 2005 09:11 AM

Wow! I really like this. I agree with what you said re: the flattening of the perspective. This looks great!

Posted by Abe at April 16, 2005 02:10 PM

I love building shots and shots like this are one of the reasons why.

Wow I can see why your blog is listed at the top stop. Nice work you got here.

Posted by nomar at April 20, 2005 01:45 PM
