Comments: bldg. no. 45

i love this photography, and probably because of the shadow from the fence. i wanted to say that this photo makes me think of some path or gate to hell and it's at building no. 45.

awesome!

Wonderful shadows and beautiful color! I think the sign finishes it off nicely.

Springtime's a-comin' to Toronto!

I've been admiring your work for quite some time now, but have just "de-lurked."

I also admire your ability to do "street" photography with a Canon 300D...I've not yet worked up the courage to start shooting with my Canon 10D the way I used to with my Oly OM-1 and Leica M3!

nice shot!!!...excellent one!!!

To cosider these two "sister" shots as a pair, is brilliant! It points up so well the major differences in mood and atmosphere and approach to an idea that are affected by differences in colour, texture, pattern, etc. in what is essentially the same shot. Well thought, Sam; as usual.

As with a lot of your work, I find it worthwhile to take time for more than one look at these "sister" shots. This second time I see what is essentially the same creation in two distinct styles; March 16th - Roccoco,
April 13th - Gothic (or maybe Romanesque)
What do you think?

Hi Sam I think your photoblog should have a link on the Toronto Tourism website.

The warmth of the color on the bricks is what caught my eye first. The sign and the shadow are good counterpoints to that glow.

Posted by Robert at April 13, 2005 12:37 PM

The colour grabbed my attention first. Than the shadow, than the sign, finally the shadow going across the sign. Nice job.

when i think i was there last week.
it makes me sad........

I love the warmth of the light on the wall. It speaks to me of hearth and home. The fire outside leads to the warmth inside. It speaks of rest and repose at the end of the day. of course i'm reading into the photo that it was taken in the evening. Perhaps it was taken in the morning.

you and your bricks
Yet I must say.......

Pretty cool

the bricks sort of look fake for some reason

Your works are AWESAM! Great shot Sam, warm and nice harmony.

intriguing...how the unique shadows of the fences in their own styles on the sister images, as reflected on the brick vs. cement, correlates to how our own haunting shadows can affect our perception as well as those around us depending on how, where and in what form that they are projected.

I can almost smell it. Thank you.

I've never visited North America, but vicariously I now do. Thank you.

What the hell is dogstone talking about? Sam took this because he thought it was aesthetically pleasing. He wasn't thinking about how our shadows haunt our perception of everyday objects.

Regardless, I'm not impressed with this shot, nor with its "sister". They're too simple for their impact (or lack thereof); with a photo of this level of simplicity I'm usually waiting for one element to really stand out -- and here it's "BLDG. No. 45". Which is meaningless, really, no matter how you look at it.

Great shadows and saturation in the brick!

Absolutely beautiful! I love the shadows and the rich detail and colour of the brick. Great, warm color.
