Comments: couch and metal stairs

It beckons for an outdoor party, with good weather, drinks, a barbeque, and good friends. Technically though, nice lines in the geometry.

Definitely, I think that you should always carry a camera on you....you see art everywhere you go!

Posted by DavidFF at March 30, 2005 02:05 AM

I really like the sharp shadows giving a whole different perspective to the stairs. Nice shot.

great shot
again (and again and again and....), amazing colors.......

How comes I can't find the outside sofa shot I so wish to take!?

Great light in this shot and a lovely composition. Would make for a great band photograph sitting on the sofa maybe!>

What a cool picture! I love the shadow of the stairs against the wall, and that's so unusual for a couch to be just hanging out in the middle of the city, outside under the stairs! Who sits there?! I'd like to take a seat on that couch, in the sunshine! Thanks for the picture!

Everything about this pic is cool - especially the shadowns from the steps. I really like it - great job as always, Sam!

Posted by Abe Savona at March 30, 2005 07:32 AM

Great urban capture, Sam. Very Klapstock-esque.

The shadows are amazing.

Posted by Jay at March 30, 2005 07:55 AM

Wow, this image is just great. Fantastic composition-- I love how the stairs (and the shadow) are the practically the only things off-axis. Well done.

How about this crop:

Poor Sam! Is this what a photobloger's apartment looks like in Toronto? Send money now! :~)

Posted by Kevin at March 30, 2005 09:19 AM

I've been checking out and enjoying your site for a few months now. As a former resident of TO I look forward to your photos each day and love your view of the big smoke. This photo is wicked cool!

Posted by kali at March 30, 2005 09:32 AM

this shot would be better if it weren't taken in the late morning....perhaps late in the afternoon, where the light is softer. nice location though.

Posted by ez e at March 30, 2005 09:48 AM

i really like this shot. the shadow of the stairs on the wall is great.

Posted by JLM at March 30, 2005 09:50 AM

Great shadow. You might want to consider dropping it to black&white.

Posted by wookiee at March 30, 2005 10:15 AM

Great shot. I like how you have two angles on it, one of the stairs and the other of the sun coming through the stairs.

How do you think of such shot, i guess i really need to open my eyes better think more outside the box.

Posted by Jnetty at March 30, 2005 10:16 AM

I don't know, i must walk around Toronto with my eyes closed. I swear i'm in teh areas you take photos on an almost daily bases, yet i've never seen the imagery.

Posted by Robb at March 30, 2005 10:27 AM

That's a pretty cool shot. Interesting set up there.

Posted by sherry at March 30, 2005 11:05 AM

I love this picture and wish I had taken it!

I also like Jonas's suggestion for a crop. It has all the essential elements and is tighter.

Posted by ned at March 30, 2005 11:17 AM

I bet this is Tie Domi's new apartment :P

Posted by News BC at March 30, 2005 11:43 AM

I guess the Tim Horton's coffee cup wasn't a winner. But you can see how someone enjoyed their coffee in the sunshine while sitting on the couch, rolled up the rim, and then tossed the cup away in dejection.

GREAT shot, Sam! Love the shadow 'graphics'!

Congrats on your photobloggies winnings! Well deserved.

Posted by Raffi at March 30, 2005 03:58 PM

you should definately not make it b&w, the colours make this picture. i wonder what used to be against the wall in the place of those white spots?

Posted by jenny at March 30, 2005 04:26 PM

Congrats on the wins -- love your site!

you have a new fan here in mexico city: me. i was led to your site by someone else here and have stared at many of your wonderful photos all morning, not caring that i might be fired, just loving the feel of toronto through your eye and you talent, and amazed at the contrast of the iranian desert or city that is your past and the cold, wet, concrete city of your present. congratulations, great work. you did win, did you not? bravo!

Posted by hugo at March 30, 2005 09:02 PM

you must walk alone... i'd be annoyed at a friend who took a picture of something like this...

...but i'm amazed at your ability to make it look cool!

Posted by Luscious_Liz at March 30, 2005 09:11 PM

congratulations on the photobloggies award.

Posted by zerosun at March 30, 2005 10:01 PM

I like this one. It's a really bright image, but you managed to keep all the detail in the brick and the sharpness of the shadows.

Excellent image as always

Posted by -098- at March 30, 2005 10:07 PM

wow, awesome lines, what a great find. if you would have been there any sooner or later, it wouldn't have been the same.

Posted by rich at March 30, 2005 10:09 PM

Congratulations on the bloggies!

Posted by laanba at March 30, 2005 10:13 PM

I wonder how many buttons u have got already from Spacing before getting the prize. Congrats! On the other hand, the style of these street photos, which is usually a composition of multiple nicely aligned geometric shapes, is starting to become repetitive. I mean the surprise level is dropping. How about some fast-action photos of some late-nite raccoons?
Just a thought.

Posted by Boreo at March 31, 2005 12:37 AM

Just wanted to say Congrats on the Photobloggies -- definitely well deserved!

Posted by myla at March 31, 2005 01:12 AM

You better watch-out, some beer company might snatch this pic and use it in one of there next ads. You get the sense that, someone should be coming down to meet friends and have a cold one. Once again, great pic. You've forced me to bookmark u're site.
