Comments: shoes

Hmm one of the pairs look like Jordans.

Posted by Ayan at March 26, 2005 12:41 AM

those look like expensive runners, I bet there are a few parent's more than pissed off at junior losing his $100.00 + runners that they just paid for....you gotta admit that that is some serious hang time however for a basketrball shoe....glad to see that you and your camera are out of bed .....that was a bit kinky and to much information....

Cool shot. Interesting to see all thoes shoes, and then the light post coming out of the wall. (I've never seen that before).

Guess what, Sam!? I'm actually getting the Canon Digital Rebel XT within the next few weeks! I cant wait to take pictures with it! =)

Posted by Raffi at March 26, 2005 01:10 AM

Where was this shot? Have any of you guys see Big Fish? Very similar! I don't know but there is something strange and eerie about it...yet fun and mischievious!

Posted by Julia at March 26, 2005 01:16 AM

If you can't find an Easter bunny, I am cool with an Easter raccoon too.

Posted by Boreo at March 26, 2005 01:52 AM

nice kicks, i dig the yellow ones in the lower right. wonder what size. heh. nice shot.

Posted by dave at March 26, 2005 03:10 AM

i don't know what it is, but i love this shot. makes me wonder if all those shoes are from the resident with their window open.

Posted by rich at March 26, 2005 03:22 AM

Ah, yes........springtime in Toronto, when the shoe trees burst into bloom......

I like the Adidas off by themselves, happily balancing. But I worry about all the people who must have cold feet and dirty socks.

Fun shot, Sam!

Thought you might be interested to know that this is not an unusual sight in parts of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Some students apparently think it's funny. :-)

Cool shot -- the saturation looks really good. The light hitting the buildings makes it look warm. Amazing how you find this kind of stuff.

Posted by Abe at March 26, 2005 07:00 AM

Just be careful about the backstreets a block over at Church and Wellesley!!

Posted by qoJ at March 26, 2005 08:20 AM

There must be a story; judging by the accumulation of shoes, it is a long one. Who has occupied this building?
It is a real credit to the photographer that the composition is so beautifully balanced while it is apparent that those who put the subject together were obviously unbalanced.
Well done, Sam! Now let's have the rest of the story.
I am very happy to see you feeling better.

This is strange subject matter - an unusual slant on the City of Lost Soles ! I cant wait to see them for real.

As far as I know, this means you encountered a hot spot for drug deals.

Posted by Em at March 26, 2005 10:03 AM

nice.......
kind of reminds me of the movie >>WAG THE DOG<< with robert de niro, dustin hoffmann, anna heche....

the good ol' shoe!!

Posted by moorooduc at March 26, 2005 10:09 AM

Nice shot...we have something in common today... Lost stuff

Posted by jasonspix at March 26, 2005 10:24 AM

I actually lived on this street (well, in a loft in this building) for over a year and just left about 2 months ago. The shoes are all from the skateboarders who board at the indoor park where this shot was taken. I recognized it all too well...
Thanks for the great shot of an otherwise nasty little eyesore.
Cheers!

Posted by Eric at March 26, 2005 12:06 PM

this is a really cool shot.

don't shoes hanging overhead mean drugs are sold there?

then man, i wonder what the business must be like where you took this photo.

...and those are pretty good shoes, too.

Posted by Talya at March 26, 2005 12:47 PM

before anyone says it is a sign of drug dealers, it isn't - at least from a Canadian view. The Star did a piece on this a month or 2 ago and basically all the cops said it is an urban myth.

Posted by justin at March 26, 2005 01:51 PM

Oh, that's so bizarre! Do people just randomly throw their shoes up there after they're unwanted? Are there more down the alleys?

Posted by michelle at March 26, 2005 01:57 PM

This picture has a magical quality about it. The illumination and pattern of the light on the bricks behind the shoes is amazing. It's definitely a great photo and my new wallpaper!

Thanks for sharing!

i'm used to seeing one pair or maybe two pairs of kicks on wires, but this! awesome.

Posted by dragonballyee at March 26, 2005 02:42 PM

You, Torontonians, are getting out of hand.

Posted by Ed at March 26, 2005 03:11 PM

weird..

Posted by J at March 26, 2005 07:12 PM

What a fun shot! How do they get the shoes down?

Posted by Susan B. at March 26, 2005 10:41 PM

Okay - just to set everyone straight. Shoes thrown over a wire (or light pole or whatever) is a form of communication between gang members. It could be that this as meeting spot, or that a gang member lives here. Might be drug related also.

Posted by ge at March 27, 2005 01:34 AM

Funny pic.=)

Posted by Patricia at March 27, 2005 01:50 AM

The big fish, definetely...

Posted by flygirl at March 27, 2005 10:43 AM

I only had one pair of shoes on my "shoes-entry", oh well.

what a wonderful way to let the world know the location of your "gang activity"... nice work... haha u should turn it in to the cops

Posted by jenny at March 27, 2005 07:47 PM

now that is some find, the most I have have ever come across is 4 pairs hanging off the one powerline.

"Okay - just to set everyone straight. Shoes thrown over a wire (or light pole or whatever) is a form of communication between gang members. It could be that this as meeting spot, or that a gang member lives here. Might be drug related also."

I don't know about that, shoes end up on powerlines etc just as some sort of prank .... here in Australia this is a common prank for school kids, apprentices, uni students and so on.

Posted by james m at April 1, 2005 07:21 PM

omg..now that is a lot of dealers in one single alley!!!!

Posted by still[frames] at April 4, 2005 07:50 PM

Good day!

It reminds me of the movie "wag the dog" and the
song: "good old shoes"

Posted by mehdi Molkaraie at November 24, 2005 07:57 AM
