Comments: fourth day of spring

Very good choice with the B&W, I've been to Toronto on days when the weather makes it feel like that :)

I love both scenes - beautiful b&w. I don't know how to describe these photos technically, but they make me feel great just looking at them.

You wrote: I know, there is another bike in there! there are so many bikes and bikers in toronto (which is surprising, since there are close to none proper bike routes available in the city) that it's hard to take a photo without one in it!

What do you need "proper bike routes" for? To my opinion bikers are just road users like any other. As long as there is any kind of civilized traffic one should not need any...

bikes rrule, lots of bike routes + some in progress

As always simply superb photos!

Man, is this what I am coming back to Toronto for... I am not looking forward to coming back to freeze. :P Nice shots though, I always like b&w. I miss Toronto and can't wait to come home.

In Amsterdam, the bikes typically have fenders. That's not the case here in NYC, where bikes are more for recreation & exercise. What do you see?

Posted by Frank at March 24, 2005 07:55 AM

I love the bottom picture. If only you couldn't see that person in the very back...

I went and voted for you. I enjoy your photos' very much and know how hard it can be to maintain something everyday. And because you had to get out of bed while you are sick and go out into that weather.

Nice shots! I'm hoping the snow is gone from here (Springfield, MO) I've had enough of the cold weather! :)

Posted by jasonspix at March 24, 2005 09:51 AM

im glad that spring weather is holding off there in toronto, because these wintery pictures are great. although im really enjoying the new spring weather here in china! you'll get it soon enough....

Posted by jesse at March 24, 2005 10:46 AM

does toronto looks like that in spring?? nice shots... b&w makes it look colder.

Posted by mariel at March 24, 2005 10:59 AM

If you had told me these pictures were shot in Stillwater, MN, I would have believed you.

I think these pictures sum up winter in small town (yah, even though it's Toronto) in North America.

That top one is astonishing. Lovely thing. Makes me almost sad spring is going to put an end to all that atmosphere with the consistent, beautiful weather we'll all be having, right?

Posted by Andrew at March 24, 2005 11:41 AM

Brrr!!! Cold looking...

It's interesting how a bit of bundling up and making the picture B&W makes this photo look so c--c-c-old. In reality, it wasn't that cold the past few days. Before the snow began to fall (and not much of it) the sun was shining and it was quite warm... I had my sunroof open and my windows down and didn't feel cold in the least.

Because of all this, I have to say you've done a really good job with the photos. You took a kinda-nippy afternoon and made it look frozen cold.

Well done!

Justin

Excellent. Good work.

Ah. Bless Canada and its total disregard to the calendar declaring that it's now spring.

Just keep it out there please. Thus far, Montreal has a nice forecast for the next couple of days and I'd love to spend Easter walking outside without tromping through snow! :)

Here in Holland streets are unthinkable without bicycles. And thank God for that: if all the bikers would get into a car traffic would be one big jam from morning to night.
Love your photos!

They look like those photos from 30's or 40's; especially with the "Subway" sign in the second one.

Posted by BiBi at March 26, 2005 11:04 AM

ouch...spring looks cold however, i'm pretty sure that's what you were going for...nice work

Posted by karli at March 26, 2005 11:20 PM

I'm from Toronto but currently living in Washington, DC, and that top pic has made me incredibly homesick. You've managed to capture exactly the image that I carry of TO in my head.
