Comments: new year 1384

Here in Germany it is 10.40am and my calendar says "beginning of spring". I think, this luscious green with its water drops emphasises this day worthy.

Happy New Year Sam!

Today seems like the perfect day of the year to celebrate the New Year... The first day of "spring" (quotation marks based on the weather here in Toronto today).

Thanks for all the amazing pictures. The green glass bottle in the background 'completes' this picture, for sure.

Posted by David S at March 20, 2005 12:16 PM

this is a nice break from your more recent city shots. it has a soothing, relaxing feeling to it. glad to see you brought in some color today, it's just what i needed.

Dear Sam, Happy New year to you

Posted by Reza at March 20, 2005 01:40 PM

What a strange groupng of objects - is there some connection between them?

I love the three colors here, green, black, and white, the limited DOF, and the natural light (is it sunshine?).

Posted by luminouslens at March 20, 2005 02:10 PM

I dont comment much, but I couldnt be a silent observer on this one. Love the colors and sharpness of it. Much better then all those snow & ice pics (although just as cool i.e. the lone skater and CN tower one from a few days ago)

Hi Sam, as promised, I saw the show yesterday and loved it. What an amazing community you bloggers have started in Toronto!! As I was waiting for a friend outside the gallery, I noticed quite a crowd inside. They didn't know each other when they went in, because when they came out together, they were all introducing themselves to each other...probably headed for the nearest Tim Horton's for a gabfest.

Then, as my friend and I toured the gallery I turned to a total stranger and asked, "Are you a Sam fan?" She said, "yes", and we immediately fell into spontaneous conversation. I felt I'd known her a long time. We should all get together in the summer for a party or a picnic so that we can get to know each other.

Happy norooz, Linda

Norooz (the Persian new year) is the first day of spring. It's been chosen as the Persian new year since a long long time ago apparently with no religious background (which makes it exceptional). No-Rooz literally means New Day and is meant to be the time when Persians leave the difficulties of the previous year behind to start new, better and happier times as nature also experiences such a change. Happy Norooz to all of you.

Happy Newroz! That plant is to eat or just for the smell I can't remember.

Like the white wine bottle and the cork in the background!

Posted by Yatko at March 20, 2005 09:55 PM

Huzzah, more depth of field related photos please, this is good... now for the far shot?

What about trying to take 2 photos of the same scene but with changed focus and then just make one side of of the first and vice versa so you have an interesting effect.

Posted by Lorin Halpert at March 20, 2005 10:29 PM

Thanks for the introduction to the Persian New Year and the Haft Seen table. It's all new to me and this is an exquisitely beautiful tradition. Is that a vinegar bottle in the background? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norouz
