here's hoping the rider didn't get this bent out of shape......I wonder if you will get accused of pasting in the chalk outline of the bike.....sheesh!!!....... some pepole .....you give them something for nothing and they gotta invent fault with it...(re.lone skater) dont study the negativity Sam, you got better things to shoot....

...both flattened.

Ouch. Poor bike. Very clever composition, sometimes a good eye it's all it takes to turn an average picture into something more.

I notice you put juxtapositions in many of your pictures. And it works. Brilliant picture, works well in B&W.

You should consider putting together a book and giving it a snappy title like "Tour de Toronto." You have enough cycling-oriented photography.

Funny shoot..Good desaturated tone...Your site is great and a favorite for me.

No sé si prefiero la parte de delantera o la trasera :-)

Casi que la pintura anda mejor.

I like the bike lane symbol painted on the road. It seems like your photography has a running bike theme.

Looks like that one's there for the duration. Nice capture.

Sam,

You am!

It was great to meet you today at the gallery; and to see those fabulous photos of yours and the other photogs. What a privilege.

We'll be visiting again in the coming weeks.

Happy New Year too! Don't forget, more photos of Iran, please :)

Yup, that's Toronto all right. ;)

I agree with a previous comment that the tone is quite lovely. And with another that the composition is somewhat ingenious. Perhaps this one is just a little unremarkable, however (my standard being some of your more conspicuously distinctive shots).

But perhaps I might criticise this photo as being, well, twee. Ironically, for me, the 'juxtaposition' of bicycle and bicycle road-marking detracts by its contribution of an altogether vacuous rhetoric. Perhaps I am taking this all too seriously, that what we have here is just a charming picture, nothing more, but I feel that as such its worth would be negligible, that this effort in fact betrays an attempt at artistic narrative when, really, there is none!

Meaning cannot be manufactured quite as deliberately as the fruits of technical prowess, of which much of your work positively reeks. Would we have Guernica if Picasso's skills had not been informed by his astounding convictions and insight? - the Rite of Spring had Stravinsky's intellect been no broader than the extent of his musico-mathematical brilliance? I put this point because I would hope a talent like yours finds itself engaged with substantial material, not trivia, and that you have something worthwhile to channel through your capable technique; I am aware you have something of a following such as might encourage complacency in most.

When so much of your work suggests a genuine pursuit of the meaningful, I would only want to see you continue to develop in this regard.

freaky! Just the other day I noticed this same bike as I was coming out of the Alias office.

Subtle... I like it :) - Great Title

Thoughtful composition. I think this is a good example of luck vs. talent. A lucky photographer might stumble upon the image of this busted up bike locked to a pole...that would be good enough. A talented photographer recognizes the the painted image of the bike on the street and composes the balanced frame you have here. Excellent work.

Cool shot - I like it!
