the discarded milk carton is a nice touch !

It would seem that the creation of the Gates was Christo's attempt to make a comment .. that the people who own the door made a comment on the comment .. that in taking a picture of the result, Sam has made a comment on the comment on the comment .. This, then, is my comment on th comment on the comment .. I make this comment to see if someone will make a comment about my comment on the comment on the comment on the comment.
Personally, I find that only Sam's comment, made with technical skill and a fineness of observation, is very meaningful. Once again, well done!

Hah yeah that does make no sense, oh well. heh. I think this picture should have been focused on the milk carton. :p

I have no idea either, but it's in such great contrast with that old door. It looks like someone put the drawing in the door and never came back. Good choice leaving the milk carton in the frame. This picture is so representative of Yonge street. I have never seen an other major street in the world where garbage, old forgotten buildings like this one, and expensive boutiques coexist.

"The Gates" two doors down from apartment 666. I think you discovered the portal to something very evil. And the chocolate milk leaves no doubt in my mind. Good shot though, the orange of the gates punches through blah winter colours much like the real thing.

Patrick.

Yeah-
At first I figured that it was just simply a thank you note...as well as a aknowledgment(sp?) for what those two artist are trying to do. Apparently, this is thier last piece (2003).

BUT...

Look at the top of the drawing or painting...I realized that those squiggly lines were part of the painting. So, I just started to think that they just put this up in the window so nobody could look inside...and that they had to add more to complete the covering.

Then I realized what those lines really are...It's a map of Central Park...showing the paths and roads.

Good comment, Ron

ok a possibly stupid technical question.
For these shots, do you stand on the same side of the street as the door or do you go to the other side of the street and zoom in?
I find that when I'm on the same side there's too much barrel distortion.

Or do you correct that later?

Always a pleasure to come and visit this photoblog every now and then!

very interesting photo. The picture on the door alone is intreguing, but I find myself wondering who dropped that cartoon of chocolate milk. Hope it wasn't you Sam trying to blance the photo properly =-P

oh boy... chocolate milk... now thats something I really miss. Real chocolate milk. I can get a kind of chocolate drink here, but it tastes like water and chocolate mixed together. It's just not the same... if only it wouldnt go bad while being shipped over here, I would ask for some.

I'm sick of the damn gates, but I find this picture more interesting than all those pictures of "the gates" throughout the photoblog community.(An even longer sentence Sam.)

Great, rich colours. This is really nice. You keep giving me good ideas, Sam.

Ron made me laugh. :)

I like the bright orange compared to the rest of the colors in this shot. Nice.

more importantly, i have no idea why someone would like the gates enough to draw a picture of it. i live in new york. they looked stupid.

wow down all the way to the left, im suprised no one commented on this yet, it reads "Now Hiring:
Full-time Sales Rep
Part-time Sales Rep"

This is incredible also because I was just reading about the Gates a moment ago on a different website, then I checked here afterwards and looked at past photos.
