Comments: lake walkers

one of your best pictures ever. I wish you would put more black and white photos.

Lets walk to Rochester... Just a stroll in the park.

looks precarious.

Toronto has an amazing skyline. I like the warm tone to this one with the people casually walking across the ice.

This is a really nice pic, Sam. I was just thinking this afternoon about how nice it would be to see another B&W foto on DDOI- and here is a great one. Great everything: the cloud depth, the CN tower proudly but quietly diplayed, the couple, ship -- all of it. I really enjoy this a lot! I am looking forward to seeing Toronto myself.

Wow -- how safe is that?

Awesome site, by the way -- I check it every day.

Nice image, as always. But I wonder how it looked in colour.

Posted by Zishaan at March 3, 2005 11:24 AM

Why so dark?

Posted by designguy at March 3, 2005 11:36 AM

would prefer colour on this one...nice shot though

Whew, I'd be too nervous to walk on the ice. I love the skyline in this shot and the fact that you used black and white.

Posted by sherry at March 3, 2005 02:25 PM

Warm tone, my a$$! I shivered when I saw this one!

Posted by peruby at March 3, 2005 03:37 PM

Are they walking in a frozen lake?? Great pic!

Posted by Jorge Lesmes at March 3, 2005 04:54 PM

IS THAT A BOAT I SEE IN THE BACK -- or no?

Posted by James Bond at March 3, 2005 06:10 PM

Nice photo. Interesting and technically well done. However, I personally think that the sky line of Toronto is pretty weak in this one, but I think the sky line is not the focus at all of this piece. The sky line is there by co-incidence alone maybe.

On another note, moments after this photo was taken the couple fell through a thin spot in the ice and were never seen or heard from again.

I think it's just asinine to attempt such a thing. The waters in lake ontario are cold enough to kill. (Hypothermia if your not unlucky enough to become trapped under the ice and drown.) How many people have to die from idoicy like this before people learn. Keep off the ice, Danger Thin Ice!!

I would guess that this is a couple of attention seekers, who recognised Sam and thought this stunt would surely land them on DDOI

interesting shot, i really like the tones, and the tower in the background really gives the photo balance..

the fact that the horizon is in the center of the shot is slightly interesting, but mostly boring. it works in this case because of the placement of the couple.

i would almost enjoy more ice in the shot though. good work, overall, sam.

wow that looks safe...
very cool pic,

i would have put some parts of the image in color with photoshop and the other part in black and white.

Posted by Hugh at March 3, 2005 07:57 PM

obviously a frozen lake is a perfectly acceptable thing in canada- where i'm from we get off from school for it being too cold to go outside!

i really like how the frozen lake mirrors the sky with it's light and dark spots- without the people and skyline, you could turn it upside-down and never know!

Posted by Luscious_Liz at March 3, 2005 08:23 PM

Hah cool pic. I like how they are walking on the lake and not too far behind them theres a ship... That messed with my mind for a bit.

Posted by Raffi at March 3, 2005 10:03 PM

that's not a boat it's a dock..
I wouldn't say it's safe.. I've seen people do this when the lake is almost melted and there's a layer of slush on the ice.. but everyone who does it are people who live on the island and I'm guessing they've been doing it for a while.

First, scott needs to ease back on the caffiene intake a bit.

Second, as for safety, look at the footprints in the snow, this is a very well travelled path!! I'd hate to hear what our warm weather bretheren would say about skating on the Rideau Canal!!

Third, cool shot wvs, it'll be my wallpaper in August when I'm prespiring profusely and wilting from the humidity.

And finally, there is a rumour of a B.'o' O. reunion show in a week or so out in Oshawa, a city VERY close to your beloved Whitby and its abandoned Crazy Train staion. hahaha
