Beautiful shot. Nice composition and perspective. I love the shots you take with your wide-angle lens.

almost as if a city doesn't actually exist behind the photographer.

you frame the city in many different tones - bravo bravo

Great image, starts well with the little plane in the sky and ends fantastically with the broken sheets of ice. I also think, good use of black and white.

SUGGESTION
i have a request, whenever ur picture is larger than the screen size (u can take a safe size), then plz at the main page post a zoomed out version so that we can see the whole photo at once, coz sometimes its only then that the beauty of composition comes out, you can give a link or make photo the link to the full normal size picture, if any one wants to see it. Please consider my suggestion.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr... C'mon Spring!

Cold, grey and desolate.

As usual - great shot, Sam.

This one works really well in black and white.

I like how the detail of the ice contrasts with the trees and the plane in the distance...

subiet,
if you are using Firefox you can right click on the picture and choose "View Image". then a new window will open and show you the image sized to fit in your browser window. however, it's part of the photographer's intent, i believe, to have you scroll and "discover" the picture in this way.
sam, love this one... although pretty scary: all i can think about is "your seat cushion may be used as a flotation device".

1 word for this one....AWESOME!
Probably my favourite pic of yours.
If at all possible, I would kill for a full res of this one for my desktop

I stumbled on your site last night and spent a delightful hour with you. Your pics are remarkable, the more so because they capture the rawness of the urban core. Thank you.

Great picture! That's how I imagine Canada in winter.
The simmetry between the clouds and the broken sheets of ice adds power to the image. The plane is positioned perfectly. Good job!

very nice.

Sam-
Nice processing. I like that the water is not black, and I dont think I see a real white either. You've managed to keep alot of detail in both the shadow and highlight areas. nice work
Thanks

A JIGSAW PUZZLE OF JAGGED ICE...Nice perspective!
What I like the most about your pictures, are the
small details such as the plane in this shot!
It makes all the difference ;o)

this is a beautiful shot, and the b/w factor just adds to it... so much. the layers of sky, tree and ice are so pleasing to the eye. great job, i love it.

i'm flying in to the island tomorrow morning...i hope we don't hit an ice chunk;)

Very nice shot, nice depth. I think the decision to make it black and white was a good choice.

Oh, how depressing...

Wouldn't this look much better in colour, or at least sepia tone?

This photo makes me sad.

Beautifully done, one of my favorites of yours.

I agree that the scrolling really detracts from the beauty of this piece. It tears the composition apart. I can make about 3 smaller sized images that are nice by scrolling, but the full image is lost. Its abit like an attempt to hide the photo by leaving it stretched out and unviewable like this.

There are times when Ive felt this technique of presentation works great, but this time I feel distracted. Nice photo though...

Where is the penguin?
Not just FireFox, with Netscape 7.1, right-click on the image and choose View Image will size it to fit your screen too.

wow, perfect shot, is it a panoramic shot, you had a series of them before, all were great!

Posted by mehran at March 1, 2005 12:07 AM

wow!

reminds me of my childhood, and not so far back [90s] hometown of Interlaken new york, just south of rochester. winter rules and has a beauty all of its own! 1000+ ways of beauty, winter has. my subtropical tallahassee florida, where i live now, rarely sees snow.
