Beautiful scenery... The photo transmits the coldness of the place!

Posted by Paulo Ribeiro at February 21, 2005 03:52 AM

Wow! This is amazingly beautiful. What a moment that must have been!

Posted by Joann at February 21, 2005 04:26 AM

Hey! I have always appreciated the ‘Asymmetrical’ element in your pics, but I feel in this one the horizon just divides it right in the middle giving it a very conventional look, and also as cloud cover was your subject, so IMHO you could have done with a little more of cloud cover. http://subiet4u.blogspot.com

That's the first thing that came to my mind when i saw this picture.

Another fleeting moment in time, captured forever. I symptatize about the cold, although it didn't appear like the wind was coming from across the water ;-)

Posted by andre at February 21, 2005 06:54 AM

Great looking clouds. love the composition.

Posted by Sebastian[ESN] at February 21, 2005 06:56 AM

Wow Sam, this is my favorite of your recent images. I like the foreground frame and the color of the water. Just cuirous, and this is not a criticism; more a question to get a handle on your amazing sense of composition: why did you shoot it with the spit of land on the left in the frame? I like it there but my first instinct would have been to get rid of that as a visual distraction. Sorry, I don't mean to dilute a compliment with a question but I want to continue to learn from your wonderful eye for composition.

rusted clouds... wow.

Sam - I enjoy your photos, I have learned from your processes. And I like the fact that you openly share your post processing methods. Good work! Have fun!

Sam you ARE human! After having seen so many of your amazing photos, I found it a great bar to strive for... but I always thought to myself that I would be limited due to equipment or technique... but now I have seen that the bar is reachable.. thanks for giving me hope! Your are the DON of Toronto Area Photography! Keep up the AWESOME work!

Nice image, indeed. Thanks for the tutorial, it's a great help.

Posted by Alexander at February 21, 2005 01:29 PM

very cool, reminds of a photo junkie image of a few days back. Indeed, I think it's the same place :)

Posted by Michael at February 21, 2005 01:45 PM

Hi Sam,
I must say that your images of late have been a refreshing departure from the concrete jungle that is toronto.

it's nice to see you getting away from taking pictures of buildings around toronto and adding some variance to your images.

this image, along with your "beaches reflection" image of a few days ago, is great. keep it up!

Posted by neil at February 21, 2005 02:52 PM

"Too cold to enjoy it"? Sam, you need to dress warmer!

This image is gorgeous! I've been revelling in the shifting shades of green in Lake Ontario lately, but I've not caught it in a light like this......and with the streak of red - ooooooooh!!!

Painted by God, captured by Sam. Thanks!

Posted by Kathy at February 21, 2005 03:03 PM

A beautiful shot. Very nice red.

Posted by Raffi at February 21, 2005 03:04 PM

Anyone else reminded of Mordor? But that really is a beautiful shade of red anywhere much less in this shot.

Posted by Tynan at February 21, 2005 05:19 PM

I came back to have another look at today's post and I am completely stunned that it looks much colder than it did before. There is a sort of Kinkade effect to the picture that I hadn't noticed earlier. Pretty cool.

Posted by Leslie at February 21, 2005 07:04 PM

lovin the red

Posted by James Bond at February 21, 2005 07:17 PM

very good, the clouds look like burning coal...

Posted by fernando at February 21, 2005 07:17 PM

great shot! it's like fire in the sky!

Posted by zee at February 21, 2005 07:19 PM

I have been lurking on your site for a while. I love all of the pictures you post. This one in particular struck my interest. If possible, could you email me a large wallpaper version? Thanks and keep up the great work.

Posted by Joe at February 21, 2005 07:50 PM

so ur name is sam:)

i think i like this, but when i look at it more and try to put it as my desktop's background, there's something scary about this photo.. feel that it's the end of the world..

hmmm, maybe it'll be different if i'm on the spot :)

Posted by yinlee at February 21, 2005 10:58 PM

ok, i think a sign of poor photography is using photoshop to "tweak" your picture to create an image that is something different than the original site. and this is such a poor obvious use of the program, to add the red. you've really lost the art of true photography here... (as well as in beaches reflection)

Posted by kris at February 21, 2005 11:11 PM

Sam... thank you for yet another incredible pic. This absolutely blows my mind, which is quite common whenever I view DDOI.

Posted by Abe at February 21, 2005 11:23 PM

once again, an amazing picture.

if you've already seen this, forgive me, but for anyone who hasn't, vote for sam at forbes (click my name).

"Red sky at night sailors delight" and by the looks of this it would be bliss! You make me look a little closer at my own world and the great potential in a moment. Keep shooting!

Sunrise and sunset... the light changes so fast!

Posted by Rusty at February 24, 2005 03:31 PM

I think the image would be stronger if the top was cropped down to the red area. It would eliminate the hot areas at the top of the frame and move the horizon to the top 1/3rd of the frame (golden mean).

Posted by Mark M. Hancock at February 25, 2005 01:19 PM

I'd love to have a wallpaper of this, it's an amazing shot!

Posted by Jamie at March 13, 2005 07:41 PM

OOOOOOOOOOOO
That is unbelievalby nice! No doubt!

Posted by peyman at March 31, 2005 09:35 PM

O wow. I have just discovered your site and this picture is best so far. It is modern classic. The color so delicate. You must be very proud. Only a minute and you knew it is important. Thank you very much.
