Comments: beaches reflection

Dang it. Those are amazing colours on their own, but reflected on the boardwalk below just clinches it.

I love this one - nice color and good perspective. Great location.

You are amazing, Sam. I love this... the richness of the hues, the reflections, the scene, the framing -- all of it. Great, great photo!

What a picture dear! i must say even after having so many possible dividing line ur pic has that excellent element of asymmetry which is very important, great work, visit http://subiet4u.blogspot.com to read my thoughts and views

Posted by Subiet at February 18, 2005 12:53 AM

That picture is simply amazing, it's definitely going as my new wallpaper. I wish the skies looked like that where I live, I'm so jealous.

Stunning piece of landscape photography. Well composed and fabulous colours and contrasts. Love it!

That is lovelier than I have words for.

Thank you!

Top notch. I think this is one of your best.

Reminds me of the one I took, but with a different atmosphere:

ok so at first when i saw it i thought this is pretty good. up there among your other greats.

but then i went and put it on my desktop and there it looks crazzzzzy. it seriously looks as if the picture is actually a window into my monitor. makes me wanna climb out there.

Posted by i like fire at February 18, 2005 02:00 AM

I look everyday but don't usually comment. Very nice picture.

Posted by kenny at February 18, 2005 02:03 AM

Once again you've outdone yourself

Posted by rz at February 18, 2005 02:05 AM

Clouds on fire and the gloomy beach, the angry trees and all. If the lamp post wasn't in the frame it would be so Sheaksperean; I think still is. Well-done!

Posted by SlicesOfLife at February 18, 2005 03:00 AM

Wow! This shot is simply amazing! Will you be posting a wallpaper?

I've been checking out your site for about a month now, and must say I'm deeply impressed. I particularly like the abandoned psychiatric hospital sequence, along with a few others, but this one takes the cake. You've captured a mood here that is almost beyond words. It took my breath away.

Posted by Dale at February 18, 2005 08:26 AM

omg! this is just breathtaking beautiful. Gorgeous composition, reflections, light and colors. perfect!

Posted by Liisa Anderson at February 18, 2005 08:58 AM

Cette photo est splendide.

Merci

Posted by Flo at February 18, 2005 09:06 AM

This is a gorgeous image. As someone said before, the reflections in the sidewalk completes the photo, which would otherwise be just another recording of amazing color. Though the colors look pushed a little bit, I, the viewer, am still willing to believe them and that's all you need.

Great capture.

Posted by Andy Cogbill at February 18, 2005 09:19 AM

Damn it man!
this is an amazing picture, I can't believe it was 1/100. there's no way i can get that kind of contrast with my camera

good work dude

Posted by Shahin Edalati at February 18, 2005 09:24 AM

I've rollerbladed that stretch quite a few times.... never seemed as wonderous as your pic! Absolutely Stunning...

Perfect! Congratulations!

Posted by Colin at February 18, 2005 09:56 AM

Sam, your photos are incredible. I'm an expat canadian and I check out your site every morning -- I love rediscovering my hometown through your pics. Walked along that boardwalk many times, your pic really captures its beauty. gorgeous.

Posted by steffij at February 18, 2005 10:13 AM

I must say I look forward to opening ddoi each morning. And this image explains why.

Posted by peter at February 18, 2005 10:15 AM

beautiful picture. rich in colors but not trying to outdo each other. it seems quite surreal but you know it's real at the same time.

Posted by bleah8 at February 18, 2005 10:19 AM

Absolutely stunning - this is one of my favorites.

Posted by sherry at February 18, 2005 10:36 AM

This is the best picture in quite a while. It is oddly reminiscent of Monet's The Seine at Argenteuil, more commonly known as Vanilla Sky. How an impressionist painting and a precise light-map of reality mirror each other is a testament to the human eye.

Posted by anyone at February 18, 2005 10:40 AM

wow that is beautiful. is that along Ashbridges Bay? the way the colours are captured, the trees are great. i dont know if ican put in words how this pic looks. you have great work.

Posted by boogieman at February 18, 2005 10:41 AM

Todays picture is both hot and cool at the same time. Judging by the number of comments it has struck a chord with your viewers. Very nice work.

Posted by John at February 18, 2005 10:51 AM

This is a really beautiful photo. The colors are amazing and as everyone has said the reflection really adds to it. I could look at this picture forever.

Posted by laanba at February 18, 2005 10:56 AM

Could you put up a higher-res version of this one? It's spectacular!

Posted by jeremyw at February 18, 2005 11:07 AM

Just too awesome! I really liked 'oil-painting-look' of the road.

Posted by ila at February 18, 2005 12:05 PM

A good shot, but postcardy. Plus it reminds me of a large number of forgettable photo-magazine shots, technically good but, er, so what? (I don't mean to be negative, but your other work has been more interesting.)

Posted by Praealtus at February 18, 2005 12:11 PM

Wow this is great. I love the contrast in the sky!! The sky looks very summery in contrast to the snow, again Great Job!!

Posted by [Ocuℓaя●S†∂sis] at February 18, 2005 12:53 PM

I second the idea of a wallpaper sized version of this. 1600*1200 please?

Posted by Mark at February 18, 2005 12:57 PM

I would love to see the raw image capture, to see how much work went into this.

Posted by designguy at February 18, 2005 01:01 PM

I've never had a reason to comment until now. This is one of my favorite pictures of yours. I put this on my desktop as well... but could really use a higher resolution version of this. It's that time of year in Toronto... we're having those beautiful sunrise and sunset skies.

Again, well done.

Posted by mcd at February 18, 2005 02:12 PM

Amazing colours. Care to give a tutorial on how you got those colours? Similar to the process with the silo tutorial?

Posted by Blaine Kendall at February 18, 2005 02:21 PM

I've never been to the beaches during winter... I wouldn't have imagined the scenery could get as breathtaking as this.

Posted by mm at February 18, 2005 02:41 PM

Posted by Curtis at February 18, 2005 02:51 PM

too much photoshop...why can't we just capture the beauty of the earth anymore. Is it not good enough for us anymore now that we have photoshop?

Posted by switch at February 18, 2005 03:12 PM

wow! that's beautiful... colors in the sky are great, and their reflection on the path is aweesome... photo must have a great resolution because fence sticks look very good,

This is lovely. I check your page almost every day, and I think this is my favorite so far.

I'm curious since I'm trying to learn more, but did you do any tweaking in Photoshop to get the colors the way they are?

Posted by BV at February 18, 2005 05:53 PM

WOW
takes my breath away :)

Posted by annemarie at February 18, 2005 06:01 PM

This rocks. The sky, the reflection, and the three distinct bands (boardwalk, snow, and fence) converging in the distiance -- these all add up to a great picture. Congrats, Sam!

Sam, I am completely in awe of this picture. Made me want to buy a ticket to Toronto and move there pronto. The colours are simply too beautiful!! Your site completely rocks and I cannot do without my daily dose of imagery!
Btw, see my post at: http://apercevoir.blogspot.com/2005/02/chemistry-lab.html :)

Posted by Vaish at February 18, 2005 11:58 PM

Great color, contrast, and composition. Love it.

Apart from the Photoshop saturation question, I'm wondering how you happened to be here at this point with this perfect color and composition. Were you planning to photograph at the beach anyway, and the light just obliged you, or did you see how the light was going to present itself and say, "I know where this would just be spectacular"?

Either way, great shot.

Posted by diana at February 19, 2005 12:51 AM

Looks like you were in the right place at the right time Sam, excellent picture and crowd response :)

The beaches are in horrible condition sadly. This picture is great because its covered in snow, but otherwise in the summer - the beaches are coated in beer bottles, condoms, and needles. Plus some crazy sick nut hid wooden spikes all over the beach to hurt people and animals.

Posted by Fixi Online TV at January 29, 2007 09:31 PM

I lived in Toronto when the Beaches were in good condition and I hope to see that happen again soon. This will be my most treasured photo of all.
The colors are beautiful and the reflection on the walkway tops it all. Hats off to this photographer.

Posted by Liza at June 22, 2007 07:44 PM

This is an awsome shot, God painted the picture and allowed you the opportunity to capture it. It's so real.In Genesis he said we are created in his image, the image of the sky is reflected on the wet concrete, and the likeness is so real.

God Bless
