Beautiful!

Posted by Miron at February 13, 2005 05:36 AM

I'm completely blown away by this one. It's just gorgeous. And those chimneys in the background look somewhat surreal.

Posted by Paulo Ribeiro at February 13, 2005 06:58 AM

Man, this is nice! The colors in the sky, on the water, the general composition. One of my favorites.

Posted by chek at February 13, 2005 07:05 AM

Perfect shot in every way

Posted by Lynn at February 13, 2005 08:24 AM

a lot of times i see one of your photos and think that it's actually two photographs. in this one, the clouds end in a horizontal making the first picture, and the second is the scene at the lake. beautiful work as usual.

All are beautiful! :)

Wonderful landscape.

All are beautiful! :)

Posted by Saikoro at February 13, 2005 08:45 AM

That's an absolutely stunning photo. We don't really have anything comparable here; parts of the water will freeze but not in such a dramatic way. You did an excellent job with this.

I hope you guys all take good care not to fall in!

This is a great photo, Sam. A great catch, with a lot of great contrasts: Big/small, blue/orange, near/far... I really like it.

Posted by Andy Cogbill at February 13, 2005 10:28 AM

holy crap. this shot is amazing. i can't stop staring at it!!! great job.

Posted by dominique at February 13, 2005 10:30 AM

Great composition and colour. Wish it would snow round my way!

Posted by James at February 13, 2005 10:33 AM

Damn Sam! that's an amazing picture. It's a nice amalgamation of an eerie sci-fi-aliens-about-to attack and a feel-good-movie-of-the-summer kinda thing. Love the refelections.

cheers

Posted by Shahin at February 13, 2005 10:40 AM

wow this is crazy. Looks like a part of the ice is going to break off on them. I like yours and jon's shots the best. The sky is just awesome..

Posted by will at February 13, 2005 10:45 AM

Good one!

Posted by Babak at February 13, 2005 11:11 AM

wow, this is a great shot! it really gives one a perspective of the ice formations... incredible!!! i also like how the clouds appear to hang really low. it looks like the 2 people are squished in-between the 2 natural layers of white.

Posted by di at February 13, 2005 11:30 AM

Holy crap. That's a friggin' amazing photo.

Posted by Khuffie at February 13, 2005 11:38 AM

I love this photo Sam! What's great about it is that if you scroll up or down, getting 'cropped' views as you go, this photo works on almost every perspective.

Try it:

1. If you cut out the horizon and sky;
just including the area beneath the smoke stack and the two people;
2. Just the horizon and sky without the people; 3. Just the sky

They all work really well!

Posted by dr.gourmet at February 13, 2005 12:07 PM

i love it... colors are amazing. is great the way in which sky is blue over the clouds and orange under em. the chimneys and towers look great. a friend lend me his lcd screen, so it looks amazing ... sadly i'll have to return it tomorrow.

Posted by mariel at February 13, 2005 12:30 PM

The scope of this photo is tremendous. I can hear the cracking as that chunk falls into the water. Also, the people add scale, and the sky is providing a nice reflector for the light on the water. Great shot.

Posted by matt at February 13, 2005 12:53 PM

Hah thats cool that you guys take pictures together. Do you do that often?

And that a very nice picture. The change from blue sky to sunset orange is mind boggling. Looks like day time at the top and then almost night at the bottom. (which is probably what it is... hah)

and damn thats some thick ice.

Posted by Raffi at February 13, 2005 12:54 PM

Hi there, I have been viewing your website for a while. I am impress that you can take great pictures with the 18-55 kit lens. This is another example of a beautiful photo.

Posted by Joh at February 13, 2005 01:10 PM

holy shit sam, that's amazing! looks so out of this world. i've never seen anything like it. it's definitely one of my new favorites. i love how you always try to incorporate the cn tower, even when it's miles and miles away.

Posted by rich at February 13, 2005 01:14 PM

LOVE it. Stunning.

Posted by Dawn at February 13, 2005 01:59 PM

I just really wish I could be there to see it with my own eyes...but then, sure, yours eyes can see and catch things I could never do! Congratulations! What a photo!

Baba to dige ki hasty

Posted by siamak at February 13, 2005 03:52 PM

It has that "end of the world" type feel to it... Subtly bleak, nice change.

The sky is burning...

Posted by Lorin Halpert at February 13, 2005 03:57 PM

That is just GORGEOUS!!

Posted by Hamsul Sulaiman at February 13, 2005 04:38 PM

Stunning. nice composition. That thick ice and the sky? It Pops!

Posted by mike w at February 14, 2005 01:20 AM

Sam.. it looks like everyone else has said it well: this is absolutely amazing, stunning, and makes the case, yet again, that you are the best. I think the saturation in all aspects is perfect. It's amazing to me that you did this with the 18-55 mm kit lens. This pic forces me to think about what I can do with this lens.

I miss frozen lakes and cold weather. Having four real seasons is not something you miss - until you don't.

I think this is the best photo you've ever taken, jesus christ...
