Comments: tall ice formation

Instinctively I know this image is upside down but what are the clues? Why couldn't it have been shot from this angle?

Nice composition, Sam. Incredible blue sky. I really like the saturation level of the bricks. The 2 big letters that are somewhat hidden behind the pines add an extra detail which works nicely into this.

why upside down?

Posted by zimny at February 12, 2005 06:43 AM

...i think this would have been better right-side-up.

What an extraordinary image: the contrast between this huge chunk of ice and the intensity of the blue sky is incredible. You've captured the detail of all the textures really beautifully. Yet another image that really makes you look closer & elevates the small corners of everyday places into something sculptural - great stuff!

Wow Just a few weeks ago I took an almost identical picture off of my own house. lol cool pic (I'm guessing its upside down too) Crazy colour blue.

I'm not sure where to start with this photo. The colours, the textures. All of it is so overwhelmingly well done!

I like some of your pics a lot, not this one . I have to congragulate you though, because you can take a crappy picture and get 25 compliments on it almost any day. I'm not being rude, but you can do much better.

Sam has some very nice photos. However, sometimes the comments here are too generous. I'm not ignorant to photographic theory. I've studied photography at the university level. It just seems that any image he posts gets a slew of praise. But then again, who am I to judge. I'll save you the trouble of responding in cliche; "Art is in the eyes of the beholder."

amazing colors...ur awesome

I don't think it's necessarily upside-down, as people have said. Stand with your back to the wall and look up, and this is what you'd see. It just feels strange because people are used to facing the wall. :) Neat shot!

It seems to me that the letters on the sign are upside down and so is the tree. Therefore the picture is upside. It must be a leak from something as icicles are usually smaller at the bottom than the top. Sam gives
us such interesting things to think about on a lovely
Saturday afternoon.

Hey nice pic (even though it's upside down...) I dont know what the little thing at the top left is though...

I like it better right-side up

Thanks, a truly beautiful pic that makes you think, has lots of texture and colour and makes you want to get there...

Yesterday I was scared that you had lost your touch once again. Glad you have gotten some sense. MORE SHOTS LIKE THIS!

it was a good idea to flip the picture, in my opinion.

I really love the colors. The perspective makes me dizzy!

Very nice pictures the colors are vibrant. I noticed your links to photoblog.org are gone at the bottom of your page. Just thought you would like ot know.

Okay. I haven't commented for awhile but I feel a need to. This is jerkish, but your work has been weak lately. The parking lot shot was great. The newest Whitby one was probably my least fav. of them all. Now this. It's way to difficult to look at. Maybe you were trying for that, but what's the point then?

Great composition ... it has such a bizarre alien feel to it. And that sky is so BLUE. Well done.
