sweet. very graphic.

It's just you.

Posted by balls at February 10, 2005 01:08 AM

Thats so cool. (I would have named this one 8 cars and left everyone to meditate upon where the invisible 8th car is and what it means.)

Love the clearity of the snow. Are you using your fancy telescopic lens again???

I think you managed to get a photo of the ever elusive Canadian Yeti otherwise known as the Abonminable Snowman. (in all seriousness the moving person adds a very cool effect to the photo.)

Nice pic! A really like it!
I also have a lot of pleasure reading your photoblog!

Posted by rafe at February 10, 2005 01:57 AM

Well spotted! I love this picture.

Posted by Edwinek at February 10, 2005 02:03 AM

fantastic...they almost look like model cars..

very cool image. something i have often thought about in a similar way - but only using rain because it never snows in the south of england!

This is probably one of the best fotos I have ever seen. In fact I think it is THE best. Absolutely amazing, Sam. I can only hope that I will feature similar work some day.

Posted by Abe at February 10, 2005 05:50 AM

It's not just the shot (which is perfect)... it's the eye. Amazing how you look at things! Because... actually it's 8 cars, one has just gone. Without this one it would just be some foto. And watch the footprints!

Posted by Martin at February 10, 2005 06:02 AM

This is rad man, I am, for some reason, really drawn to it. Not just a look and "cool", but really drawn to it.

Posted by Ryan at February 10, 2005 06:34 AM

wow, i'm the first!
love the picture, are those traces of a moving car?

Posted by fernando at February 10, 2005 06:55 AM

Cool shot! Literally.

Posted by chek at February 10, 2005 07:46 AM

really cool shot...love the black and white and the spectral-like person moving past the lower left car

Posted by sal at February 10, 2005 09:01 AM

I have enjoyed your shots like this one in the past. I really like the impressions of where cars used to be in this shot. To me, it gives the image a sense of movement.

Posted by Jay at February 10, 2005 09:06 AM

Great shot, this one. Moody, great exposure, and I love the way each car is unique - there is "snow evidence" of when it arrived, when it will leave. Very nice.

Posted by Scott at February 10, 2005 09:11 AM

Ultra cool. Have you seen the movie Fargo? Reminds me of the scene where Jerry is scraping the ice off his car. And the airport scene. Great shot.

Posted by Aaron at February 10, 2005 09:16 AM

Fargo.
If you haven't seen it, watch it, and you will see why I mentioned it.

Hey..this is the same park

Nice pic but I still like the picture taken in last fall more than this one.

Posted by Zaid at February 10, 2005 09:48 AM

....really really cool shot!! great job! .-)

Posted by wushi at February 10, 2005 09:50 AM

What a great exposure choice! Snow at night can't be easy. This looks effortless, but it's the sort of shot that never turns out for me. Did you try faster ISOs before you settled on using the tripod? Or did you try longer exposures, too?

Posted by Michael at February 10, 2005 10:58 AM

Brilliant. Ya the recent missing car is cool, but I think that one of the other features of this shot is that 3am parking lot type lighting/shadow in this scene.

And man, that crazy image you caught of the human in there is bizarre, a couple legs, then just dust of what's left of them.

Brilliant.

Posted by phantomgroup at February 10, 2005 11:24 AM

ha, that is pretty interesting. =)

Posted by arie at February 10, 2005 11:29 AM

Wonderful photo. One can even estimate the amount of time the cars were parked before they left the parking lot!

Posted by Paulo Ribeiro at February 10, 2005 12:06 PM

Yep. I thought of Fargo immediately as well.

Posted by Blaine Kendall at February 10, 2005 12:29 PM

Y'Know - I don't mean to rub it in - but it is shots like this - brilliantly composed with great tonal range and such - that makes me very happy to live on the west coast - I looked in my back yard yesterday and noticed that my rose bush is starting to bud out.

Posted by Arne at February 10, 2005 01:23 PM

Brilliant... What was the time delay on it? a few seconds.. the car must have pulled out quite fast and those people must have been walking pretty slow... top job :)

Posted by Nigel Parker at February 10, 2005 03:07 PM

This reminds me of a previous shot you have posted last year I think... Cool nonetheless, though I think if I remember right... The one before is better because of the lighting in that particular picture.

Posted by Raffi at February 10, 2005 03:25 PM

first good capture in a lonng time. Glad to see you are back

Posted by moscon at February 10, 2005 07:13 PM

Sam,

Have I ever told you that I visit your pic each day after reading all the "news" that's fit to print. And yours is dessert. Rewarding, filling, and satisfying.

Yes Sam, you AM!

Posted by annemarie at February 10, 2005 08:21 PM

Great b&w. I had to look for the freshly missing car to make sure it wasn't going off the top of the pic.

Posted by Paula at February 10, 2005 08:28 PM

Excellent shot.

Posted by Eric Hancock at February 10, 2005 11:12 PM

wow this is like something you see on a post card, or maybe a mac commercial (everything is white!).

The blurred guy looked like a ghost and freaked me out. Nevertheless, this is a very intresting shot, I'm now imagining a yellow striped mini cooper driving through these cars....

sorry, my obsession with mini coopers interferes...

Posted by Hugh at February 10, 2005 11:16 PM

i love this. this looks like a scene from a classic black and white movie.

Posted by grace at February 11, 2005 10:41 AM

Nothing short of fantastic

Posted by JamesK at February 11, 2005 10:57 AM

Are you planning to publish your photos?
You should consider the idea! It will make
one of the most beautiful books around!
Congratulations!

Posted by Maxine at February 11, 2005 02:47 PM

You can say 4 out of each 7 cars in Canada is VAN, SUV, or Station wagon...
Am I good in stats...???

Posted by Frank at February 11, 2005 05:09 PM

that last car at the right top has a huge shadow. looks deceiving for the size of the car. really great photo.

Posted by zerosun at February 11, 2005 05:34 PM

a combination of desolation and whipped cream

Posted by Pieter at February 13, 2005 06:12 PM

awesome!!!

Posted by jorge at February 16, 2005 01:53 AM

I saw this at the publicity show and although I liked it, I really thought it should have been called eight cars.

Posted by matteus von mustard at March 20, 2005 09:33 AM

Love it.
