Comments: fog and smog

This looks great! A little bit like Frankfurt in Germany!
And I like the hidden sun and the sunbeams in the sky! Makes a nice soft colour!

wtf... maybe it's an excuse for the fact that your photos f*****g suck.. I am not being critical on a techical basisis but the fact that it's been a month and nothing good has come of this piece of sh*t site is rather pathetic.......wow....

nothing.. you should get a real job.. or maybe a life.

O dear, it does look like what I hope my lungs do not! Drink hot thyme with honey, inhale camomile fumes under a towel.

Your photos are wonderfully atmospheric and frankly glorious. What you're doing here is a great use of the Internet: sharing your views of an area of the world. It's inspiring and thought-provoking.
I have little knowledge of the intricacies of photography, but these are aesthetically beautiful images.
Get well soon & hope the smog clears now the shot's taken!

These are amazing, such wonderful light. Well done!

I really like these - you've used the light well to capture the weather conditions. Hope you're feeling better!

Very good shots, Sam. The CN Tower sitting quietly in the background makes for a quiet but powerful impact. Both shots are softened and illuminated nicely, creating more than just ordinary scenes of towers. The clouds/fog in photo 2 create an additional sense of warmth, while photo 1 looks like an asthma sufferer's nightmare. I am learning a lot from you, Sam! Thanks for the education.

these remind me of paintings by the british artist turner - surreal tones and ghostly buildings. its strange how an ugly atmosphere can create a sort of ethereal beauty.

Yes it was horrible weather and the bad thing is the fog is still here!

Posted by redk at February 6, 2005 10:58 AM

Yes I was downtown yesterday and it was a beautiful day to start, and by the end of the day it was a horrible horrible traffic hazard. By nightfall, I wasnt able to see more than 8 meters in front of my car, even with high beams.

Nice pics.

You've captured quite the ethereal moment here with the sun cutting the fog/smog.

I like the sihlouette.
Dit ai spel zat wright?

In the first pic it looks as if there are computer chips on the bottom.
heh.

Nice capturing of the foggy weather of Toronto.

It was so bad..i couldn’t even drive yesterday night.

Very apocalyptic. The pitch dark foreground gives an eerie feel. Great shots.

I agree with Ben. I love Turner, and he had a knack for transforming ugly urban, industrial landscapes into beautiful paintings -- I trust you have perhaps attended the recent exhibition of Turner-Whistler-Monet at the AGO? Wonderful.

As for Bksbcgsfgds's vulgar comments, I for one am extremely grateful that Sam even shares his work. While I might not always find each one a masterful piece of art, I enjoy seeing the city through his perspective.

Nice pics. Gotta love the fog, great views, give it 5 stars!

Don't u wish u could get the sun shine in the bottom pic?

bkssbcgfsgds> is this the return of the infamous Chemical imballance??? or is it someone else just as abrassive?

(Sam I give you so much credit for letting his post show on your site. I would have deleted it right away if it was on mine. You are a strong and honest man Sam.)

As for this photo I like it. Its uniquely blurred and although imperfect, I find it is so true to life. That is exactly how
the sky line looks as I struggle to see it in the glaring morning sun. This photo is simply true to life. It is great.

Thanks again Sam. Everyday is a suprise.

The lower photograph resembles some kind of cloud city in StarWars!

Tall shoebox building were never appealing to me, a slight change of weather system reveals their ugliness in form of silluettes

Hey Sam, great shots! I got stuck in the fog too: people were stopping right in the thick of it where I was to admire it :):

I didn't realise that any of this was smog as well as fog, I was down at the lakeshore watching all the buildings appear and disappear as the fog moved around. These pictures really capture the atmosphere of the day perfectly.

Posted by miles at February 6, 2005 10:22 PM

Now THAT'S a polluted city.

Posted by F. Castilho at February 6, 2005 10:54 PM

Those shots are eerie yet beautiful.

We've been hit by smog warnings most of the past week. It's crazy. I keep thinking my contact lenses are blurry and then I realize it's haze and smog. What the heck?!

The anonymous poster is rude and a coward.

Sam.....nice that you even let morons share there pathetic ignorance... re.bksbcgsfgds.....I say to him.... if you been lookling at this site for a month and thats the most intelligent thing you can find to say..... It's Raccoon City!

Funny, I don't see the troll posting his work on a daily blog. 'Nuff said.

Posted by Jimmy at February 7, 2005 03:14 AM

I love the first pic. Unfortunate that it's smog! Very SanFran-esque.

Posted by wookiee at February 7, 2005 11:47 AM

I will add from my personal experience these images are very reminescent of 9/11. I know that was not the intent but I just thought I would throw that out there, if for no other reason than to see how the appreciation of beauty can be affected.
